Specialist Pharmacist – Surgical/Aseptic

NHS Lothian Pharmacy & Medicines Service (including evening, weekend, on‑call and public holidays commitment) – Join our dedicated Pharmacy & Medicines team and play a key role in delivering high‑quality service to patients in NHS Lothian. This position is located at the Royal Infirmary Edinburgh.

This is an exciting new opportunity for a pharmacist to provide specialist clinical pharmaceutical service in surgical areas (General Surgery, Critical Care, Orthopaedics, Reproductive Medicine). The post holder will also deputise for the aseptic services manager and support technical services development, staff management, training and education. The role contributes to service development and cross‑professional collaboration to achieve core advanced pharmacist credentials.

We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic pharmacist with a passion for delivering exceptional clinical care.

The specialist pharmacist will:

• Deliver high‑quality clinical pharmacy service to surgical areas.
• Adapt service delivery to evolving healthcare needs.
• Depute for the aseptic services manager as required.
• Expand specialist knowledge and develop skills in service development, staff management, training and education.

• Master of Pharmacy Degree (or equivalent).
• Registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC).
• Completed training with the RPS Post‑Registration Foundation Pharmacist Curriculum.

• Experience in proactively influencing prescribing and optimising patient care.
• Patient‑focused approach and ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
• Excellent communication and problem‑solving skills for decision‑making in a surgical setting.
• Commitment to continuous learning and professional development.

To work in the United Kingdom, a valid right to work is required. The post requires PVG Scheme membership or record; non‑members must apply to Disclosure Scotland.
