An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced SACT Nurse to progress into a role of a Nurse Practitioner – Systemic Anti‑Cancer Therapy (SACT). This is a senior clinical position working in SACT day units to support, educate and develop staff nurses within the role.
The successful candidate will work between the SACT Day unit in NCCC – Cumberland Infirmary, Carlisle, and Henderson Suite, West Cumberland Hospital. Both units operate Monday‑Friday 0800–1830.
Key responsibilities- Lead education and training, supporting new staff and existing staff to enhance their knowledge in Oncology/Hematology and SACT administration.
- Provide regular direct clinical supervision and hands‑on clinical work to develop nursing competence in all clinical skills and SACT administration.
- Deliver teaching and education sessions to the nursing team on a weekly basis.
- Teach and liaise with external providers or representatives to develop training for staff.
- Utilise clinical skills to assess patients.
- Non‑medical authorisation of blood products.
- Support the clinical team to manage a defined caseload, including assessment, investigation, diagnosis and treatment within defined protocols and training.
- Provide immediate care management of patients, including communication of care plans to patients and significant others.
- Review and refer appropriately to allied health professionals, resident medical staff, specialist registrars or critical care outreach teams.
- Liaise with the Patient Services Coordinator.
- Communicate within the multidisciplinary team, ward/departmental staff and out‑of‑hour teams.
- Contribute to specialist education and training for ward departmental staff, nursing and medical students.

- Significant experience in Oncology and/or Haematology
- UKONS SACT Passport
- Significant experience administering SACT currently
- Practice Supervisor and Assessor/Mentorship
- IV Drug Competent
- Cannulation skills
- Venepuncture skills
- CVC management skills
- Accredited SACT course
- Teaching qualification/course
- Evidence of audit/service improvement
- Leadership qualification/experience
- Non‑medical authorisation of blood products or willingness to undertake
- IRMER trained or willingness to undertake
- Clinical skills course or willingness to undertake

This role requires a DBS. Successful candidates who must obtain a DBS will have the cost of the DBS certificate deducted from their first month’s salary.
