Executive Medical Director

Consultant Core Salary: £111,430 to £148,064 per annum

Plus management fee of £47,682 per annum

The Role

We are seeking an exceptional leader who shares our commitment to improving the health and wellbeing of the residents of Lanarkshire. Reporting to and working closely with the Chief Executive, and as an Executive Member of the Board, you will provide professional, clinical and managerial leadership across a wide range of strategic and operational responsibilities. The role of Medical Director is a pivotal position and will require you to apply expertise and influence in several key areas including Quality, Patient Safety, Research & Innovation, Clinical Governance, Integration and re-design of Clinical Services and Risk Management.

Your medical leadership skills will be crucial to the development of an achievable strategy for the region. You will use your experience of senior medical management in the NHS to support an environment of continuous improvement. As a GMC-registered practitioner, you will use your outstanding leadership skills to guide the medical professionals under your remit, looking for ways in which we can continue to work collaboratively with key stakeholders.

As Executive Medical Director you will be the Responsible Officer to the GMC for the professional standards and registration of approximately 1,200 doctors working across the Acute Division and North & South HSCPs and including General Practitioners in 102 GP Practices. You will also have responsibility, through the Director of Medical Education for the delivery of safe, high quality postgraduate education for approximately 420 doctors in training.

Applicants will have a strong clinical background relating to their specialist qualifications but will also demonstrate experience working across Acute Services and Health & Social Care Partnerships (HSCPs) and Public Health Medicine with strong credentials as a senior clinical leader working across primary and secondary care and with strategic partners. You will be skilled in the management of and diverse situations and possess the interpersonal and negotiation skills required to operate and influence effectively in a politically sensitive environment.
