Position: 236370 Team Lead Occupational Therapist at NHS Lothian
, based at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh. Full‑time, permanent, with part‑time considered.

PVG Scheme and Criminal Records:
This post requires the post holder to have a PVG Scheme membership/record. If the post holder is not a current PVG member for the required regulatory group (i.e. child and/or adult) an application will need to be made to Disclosure Scotland and deemed satisfactory before they can begin in post. Due to legislative changes from 1 April 2025 this post may require a different level of criminal records check.
If the post is assessed as a regulated role, your appointment will be subject to joining the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme. Any changes to the current requirements will be confirmed by the Hiring Manager or the Recruitment Team.
Work hours and location:
Full‑time, permanent; part‑time will also be considered. The team works collaboratively with our Physiotherapy colleagues and the wider multidisciplinary team. Weekend working will be part of a 5‑over‑7‑day working pattern. Strong network links to the hospital via bus services are available.
- Excellent communication, time management and prioritisation skills.
- An ability to work flexibly across areas within the acute medical remit.
- A high standard of Occupational Therapy assessment, problem‑solving and intervention skills.
- A strong multi‑disciplinary work ethic.
- Clinical experience working as an Occupational Therapist within an acute or rehabilitation setting.
- Experience of providing clinical and non‑clinical supervision.
- Experience and commitment to service provision review/audit.
- Provide timely and patient‑focused Occupational Therapy input to the emergency department, acute medical receiving unit, and medical wards.
- Work across varied acute medical areas, collaborating with Physiotherapy and other MDT members.
- Sustain clinical expertise and act as a team lead, supporting staff in assessment, intervention and audit.
- Participate in service provision review and quality improvement initiatives.

If appointed to part‑time, the salary will be pro‑rata. As from 1 April 2026, the Agenda for Change full‑time working week will reduce from 37 to 36 hours per week. Part‑time hours will also be reduced pro‑rata. However, there will be a corresponding increase in the hourly rate so that pay will not be affected.
