Job Description & How to Apply Below
Location: City of Edinburgh

Help shape the public conversation on climate displacement in the UK. Join Hive Mind Speaks as an Environmental Lead for our next project and guide how we frame, explore and respond to the impacts of climate change through art, public deliberation and national policy advocacy.

What difference will you make?

The Environmental Lead will provide the climate literacy and strategic framing needed to ensure our civic process is rooted in environmental realism, justice and relevance. Your insight will help us engage local communities who are already experiencing the effects of climate change and allow us to gather meaningful public input on what a fair and effective response might look like. This input will directly shape policy advocacy outputs from the project and help ensure that the campaign resonates with both public and policymaker audiences.

What

are we looking for?

We’re looking for someone with experience in environmental science, climate policy, adaptation strategy or a related field. Ideally you will have experience communicating complex climate issues to non-specialist audiences or have worked in public engagement roles. You should be comfortable collaborating across disciplines and contributing to a values-led, participatory process.

Essential skill areas include

  • Strategic development and planning
  • Research (qualitative and/or desk-based)
  • Environmental framing for public engagement
  • Understanding of policy processes and climate adaptation
  • Ability to translate climate issues into accessible public dialogue themes

A background in environmental campaigning, community resilience, or climate justice work is welcome. There is also space in this role to bring your own take on how to help the public deliberate on climate questions with care and clarity.

What will you be doing?

We are seeking an Environmental Lead to support the development and delivery of our next major civic arts cycle, which focuses on climate displacement within the UK. You will help shape the environmental framing of the project, working alongside our artistic, democratic and policy teams to ensure the issues raised are accurately and meaningfully represented. Your role will involve informing the deliberation framework, identifying key environmental discourse prompts for public discussion and ensuring regional and frontline climate experiences are reflected in the process.

You’ll also support the development of briefing materials and contribute to the credibility of policy recommendations stemming from public participation and our independent national referendum.
