RSPB is recruiting a Planner to join its Scotland planning team, supporting planning, policy, and advocacy work that helps ensure development plays a positive role in tackling the nature and climate crisis.
This is a professional role within the environmental charity sector, offering the opportunity to work on nationally significant planning and conservation issues while developing specialist knowledge and experience.
The roleWorking closely with colleagues across policy, advocacy, and delivery teams, you will provide planning advice and support on development proposals and consenting cases across Scotland.
You will contribute to policy and legislative consultation responses, internal guidance, and training, and help advocate for RSPB planning policies with external stakeholders including government, businesses, and partner organisations.
The role also involves building strong working relationships, supporting consistent internal communication, contributing to high quality reports and briefings, and working with communications colleagues to support campaigns and advocacy activity.
Working patternThis is a full time, permanent role for 37.5 hours per week, although alternative working patterns will be considered.
The role is flexible within Scotland, with regular attendance required at the RSPB Edinburgh office and occasional travel across central Scotland and elsewhere in the UK.
Some overnight stays will be required.
What we are looking forYou should hold a relevant degree or postgraduate qualification in planning or a related subject, with knowledge of the Scottish planning system and environmental assessment processes.
Strong analytical skills, excellent written communication, and the ability to engage and influence a wide range of stakeholders are essential.
Membership of the Royal Town Planning Institute, or working towards it, and experience within planning, conservation, or related sectors would be beneficial but are not essential.
What is on offerThe salary for this role is £33,027 to £35,259 per year.
