Role Overview

You will be responsible for coordinating all aspects of the permit to work process, including but not limited to preparation and issue of permits to work, implementation of isolation, management of the LOTO system, risk assessment and review of RAMS, liaison between engineering and production on work activities. This role will cover all permitting activities, with focus on non‑routine / high hazard / project works.

Minor breakdowns will be covered where possible, but normally supported by production teams in conjunction with permit coordinator.

Core Responsibilities
  • Coordination and issue of permits to work, aligned to site safety procedures. This includes all high hazard additional permitting including (but not limited to) working at height, low / high energy hot works, excavation, and confined space entry.
  • Supporting preparation of permits and conducting site visits during the planning of work and isolations ensuring all hazards and controls have been identified and controls in place.
  • Conduct Risk Assessments, including review of RAMS for all work requiring permits to be carried out by 3rd Party Contractors.
  • Ensure all documents and reports comply with governing legislation, site engineering policies and site procedures (EHS, Quality).
  • Inspection of ongoing works to ensure compliance with the issued permit and conduct daily audits of permits to maintain safe and compliant working.
  • Management of Permits to Work during the Site Shut‑Downs, including supporting engineering teams in preparation of permits.
  • Conduct permit closure walk around to ensure work areas are left in a safe and tidy condition.
  • Provide input, as appropriate, into any investigations arising from non‑conformances against site procedures and/or incidents.
  • Proceduralizing routine tasks to eliminate requirement for PTW where possible.
  • Building strong relationships and collaboration and holding honest and open conversations with both internal and external parties.
  • Any other duties as reasonably requested.
Qualifications / Knowledge / Experience

Required

  • Experienced in permit issuing and management
  • Experience working in manufacturing or engineering in pharmaceutical / life sciences or lower tier COMAH

Desirable

  • Experience working in manufacturing or engineering with materials of high pharmacological potency
  • IOSH Managing Safety or equivalent IOSH / NEBOSH certification
  • Knowledge and experience of CDM regulations and HSG 253 guidance on plant isolation
