  • Full Driving Licence & Flexibility to travel
  • 5years’ experience in Environmental Management within the construction industry
  • Good understanding of environmental legislation relevant to the construction industry.
  • Charteredor working towards chartered status.
  • BSc / MSc in Environmental subject
  • Good understanding ofthe requirements of the ISO 14001 standard.
  • Knowledge of standard UK environment management requirements (Scotland specific will be advantageous)
  • Experience with working within remote peatland/upland habitats

Reporting to Regional/Project Environment Manager the main purpose of the role is to –

  • Provide advice to support

    STRABAG work on future significant construction projects within Highlands and Islands region of Scotland andtothe wider business (where required) in line with theSTRABAG management system, the STRABAG Environment and Sustainability Strategy and the wider project requirements. Supported bythe

    Environment

    Manager or more senior members of the project team.
  • Implementation ofthe

    STRABAG ISO 14001 compliant Environmental and Sustainability Management System (ESMS)

Requirements:

  • Advise and support Project Management and Supervisors in discharging their responsibilities towards the environment and respond to queries or correspondence on environmental issues.
  • Ensure employees are aware of their statutory duties and responsibilities and understand the requirements of the Group Environmental Procedures and Guidance Notes
  • Advising on,and applying for,consents and authoring documents for planning condition discharge.

    Support the Environment Manager and other Project Management in direct liaisonwithstakeholders and regulators such as Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA) and Local Planning Authorities.
  • Lead on work willing elements related to environment and sustainability, drafting PQQ & ITT responses, developing programmes and coordinating with the wider & multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Undertake regular contract and undertake environmental assurance activity to monitor compliance with environmental legislation and Company environmental procedures and ensure environmental controls are in place and working.
  • Undertake due-diligence reviews of project information, identifying necessary permitting and consenting requirements while developing plans to deliver.
  • Undertake subcontract ITT reviews, performance evaluation and assurance activities.
  • Log, monitor and investigate any environmental Incidents and Non-conformances. Ensure major environmental incidents are reported to senior management and the Group Environmental Manager in a timely manner according to Group procedures, and to statutory authorities if necessary.
  • Collate Business Unit / Contract Environmental and Sustainability statistics in a timely manner and submit to the HSSE Manager/ Environmental Manager /Group HSSE for reporting purposes.
  • Review environmental sustainability and incident statistics to identify trends and areas for improvement.
  • Develop and implement Project / Contract Environmental campaigns and improvement plans in agreement with the Head of Environment and Director of Environment & Sustainability.
  • Produce Contract Environmental Management Plans, and other contract specific environmental plans and/ or site-specific environmental instructions.
  • Identify significant environmental impacts for contracts and help set-up contracts to include appropriate controls.
  • Maintain records as necessary to ensure compliance with Legislation, Company procedures and Contract Requirements
  • Provide Project Manager’s, the Head of Environment and Director of Environment & Sustainability, with regular and accurate details on all environmental matters affecting their contracts.
  • Identify employees that require environmental training, provide relevant training and maintain records of training provided.
  • Support the Head of Environment and Director of Environment & Sustainability in the delivery of the Group Assurance Programme.
  • Undertake internal Business Unit / Project audits as required.
  • Disseminate information issued by Head of Environment and Director of Environment &Sustainability, including changes to legislation, to relevant employees.
