The Opportunity

We have a fantastic opportunity for a permanent Senior Technician to join our Consulting Structures Practice in Scotland.

The role

As a Senior Technician at Amey Consulting, you’ll see your work from early design to the very end result, and every project will be different from the last. You will be responsible for or assist with:

  • To work in a team, producing technically sound engineering solutions, complying with all relevant technical standards and client requirements, working unsupervised and supervising more junior members of staff undertaking similar tasks.
  • The preparation and checking of designs, calculations, drawings and documentation as part of the production of scheme deliverables that satisfy the overarching criteria of quality, cost and programme. Overseeing the actions of more junior members of staff undertaking similar tasks and taking responsibility for their actions.
  • Liaising with client and supplier representatives at peer level, attending progress meetings, responding to queries etc.
  • Contributing to the preparation of bids and the general work winning function.
  • Working on site, either on a visiting basis or in a full time but temporary role and including out of hours working.
  • Assuming the role of people manager when required by the business.
  • They will be expected to meet budget targets and deadlines set by their manager but will have no responsibility for the financial performance of the project.
What you will bring to us:
  • Level 3, 4 or 5 qualification in an appropriate subject, i.e. a Level 3 Diploma, HNC, HND or a foundation degree.
  • Engineering Technician (Eng Tech) status already held or to be gained whilst in the role.
  • Vocational qualifications and competencies as determined by the requirements of the role, e.g. Bridge Inspector Certification Scheme (BICS), Network Rail STE competency, Personal Track Safety (PTS), Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS), Industrial Rope Access Trade Association (IRATA), Prefabricated Access Suppliers and Manufacturers’ Association (PASMA), confined spaces, asbestos awareness, working at height etc.
  • Able to demonstrate basic technical and professional skills within the relevant technical discipline, probably gained during higher education and possibly supplemented by a period of industrial placement or vacation work or through successful completion of a relevant Level 3 Apprenticeship.
