ECAT-i Clinical Lectureships for Medical, Surgical & Primary Care Professionals
ACN2/AMN2: £48,288 - £71,550 per annum; GP salaries dependent upon career stage

Full-time: 40 hours per week
Fixed term: CCT date + 6 months

ECAT- i (Edinburgh Clinical Academic Track - inclusive) is the University’s exciting academic track for all medical and surgical specialties, including primary care professionals. ECAT- i Clinical Lectureships include a Wellcome PhD for Health Professionals in a world-leading research centre at the University of Edinburgh, with combined clinical training and practice in association with NHS Education for Scotland (NES) and NHS Lothian.

The programme builds on the principles of research excellence and mentorship developed over the last two decades since the programme began in 2008, with a strong emphasis on research inclusivity and a positive research culture.

Before beginning the three-year PhD project, funding is provided for a 12-month preparatory period when selection of supervisors and planning of the PhD project are optimised with the support of the ECAT directors. Following the PhD, there is funding for research training and clinical practice up to CCT + six months, or two years post-PhD as appropriate.

Vacancies are open to:

  • trainees in all GMC-recognised medical and surgical specialties;
  • primary care practitioners; and
  • candidates from across the UK.

Candidates who have already undertaken a period of full‑time research leading to a doctoral degree are not eligible to apply.

You are required to be a practising healthcare professional in the UK/Republic of Ireland
, and to be registered with a national professional regulatory body (eg the General Medical Council) in the UK/Republic of Ireland
.

A Skilled Worker Visa is an essential requirement for non‑UK citizens.

Candidates must be eligible for higher clinical training. Candidates must hold (or obtain by the start date of the post) a specialty training position with a National Training Number (NTN) and must be GMC‑registered and practising clinically in the UK. Evidence of high academic distinction and potential (first class honours BSc, honours MBChB, multiple prizes, research papers, etc) is essential, as is introductory research experience at BSc or MSc and postgraduate research with high attainment.
