The Post:
This post is based within the Scottish National Blood Transfusion Service (SNBTS) Procurement team, which forms part of NSS Procurement and operates under National Procurement – the recognised Procurement Centre of Expertise for Health in Scotland. SNBTS Procurement works to deliver best value, compliance and strategic sourcing across SNBTS operations. The team is based at The Jack Copland Centre on the Heriot Watt Research Campus in Edinburgh and provides procurement and stores support services, including onward distribution of finished plasma products to NHS Scotland pharmacies.
An opportunity has arisen for a Commodity Manager to join this team. This role supports SNBTS’s procurement workplan and alignment with NSS Procurement strategies. You will work closely with the Procurement Manager and SNBTS stakeholders to manage a diverse portfolio of goods and services, including strategic managed services and critical supplies for collection, manufacturing and testing processes.
The Candidate:
We are looking for an experienced procurement professional with a strong track record in managing complex supply chains and delivering best value outcomes. You will have proven experience in strategic procurement, supplier performance management and contract lifecycle oversight, preferably within a regulated or complex environment. Education to degree level in a relevant discipline (such as Procurement, Business or Supply Chain) or equivalent experience is required, and you will hold or be working towards Membership of the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply (MCIPS) or equivalent.
Advanced IT literacy, including data analysis and presentation skills, is essential, along with excellent written, verbal and presentation abilities.
You will be a motivated, adaptable team player who can work independently and collaboratively, with strong analytical and problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to prioritise effectively.
Responsibilities (illustrative)- Manage a diverse portfolio of goods and services for SNBTS, including strategic managed services and critical supplies for collection, manufacturing and testing processes.
- Deliver strategic procurement outcomes, supplier performance management and contract lifecycle oversight.
- Collaborate with the Procurement Manager and stakeholders to align with NSS procurement strategies.
This post will be based at The Jack Copland Centre, Edinburgh.
Currently hybrid working with regular attendance on site required.
The work pattern is Monday to Friday, 37 hours per week.
It is a condition of employment that you must live and remain a resident within the UK for the post in which you will be employed with NSS.
