CUSTODIAN — City of Edinburg in Edinburg, TX is actively seeking a dedicated Custodian to assist with performing and/or coordinating the cleaning and sanitation of city buildings and facilities and conducting inspections of buildings and equipment. This Custodian position earns competitive pay of $13.38/hr

A Day in the Life of a Custodian

As a Custodian, you spend your day providing high quality service by cleaning office furniture, walls, windows, and floors, and emptying trash. Your work involves coordinating and performing general custodial functions such as sweeping, mopping, dusting, and cleaning windows, light fixtures, and carpets. You are responsible for cleaning, dusting, and disinfecting areas such as restrooms, offices, and other facilities. You may operate floor maintenance equipment (buffers, strippers, vacuums, extractors) or coordinate minor building repairs, scheduling, and movement of office furniture and other items.

When you aren’t performing custodial tasks, you will maintain inventory records of building property, custodial and maintenance tools and equipment, and custodial materials and supplies. You will perform minor maintenance and repair work on custodial equipment and secure buildings after working hours or as required. You enjoy helping others and provide assistance and support to other divisions within the department as needed.

The city needs someone with skills in customer service and custodial materials who genuinely enjoys what they do.

Qualifications for a Custodian

  • Required

    Education:

    High school diploma, G.E.D. or equivalency
  • Educational Substitute:
    Related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Required

    Work Experience:

    No Experience Required
  • Requires a working knowledge of custodial materials and chemicals, operation of custodial equipment, and use and maintenance of building maintenance tools and equipment
  • Knowledge of cleaning techniques and procedures and of inventory control principles and methods
  • Work requires the use of standard technical skills appropriate to the work environment of the organization
  • Requires knowledge necessary to understand basic operational, technical, or office processes
  • Ability to use buffers, vacuums, polishers and other related cleaning materials
  • Bilingual English/Spanish preferred
  • Must have a current and valid class "C" driver's license from the Texas Department of Public Safety
