Scope of Job

Associate Athletic Trainer
:
Supervise day‑to‑day operations of the athletic training area, provide medical supervision and care, monitor safety of equipment, and offer administrative oversight for assigned operations.

Assistant Athletic Trainer
:
Assist with medical supervision and care of student athletes, monitor equipment safety, provide administrative support, and address injury‑related needs.

Description of Duties Associate Athletic Trainer
  • Evaluate injuries and determine subsequent care or referral.
  • Lead, mentor, and guide athletic assistants.
  • Manage medical supply levels in training rooms.
  • Ensure all medical equipment is functional and coordinate maintenance.
  • Serve as main contact for concussion and EMR software.
  • Direct clinical mentor for assistant Certified Athletic Trainer.
  • Assist with medical/injury needs, including transportation to medical facilities.
  • Direct medical supervision of team practices and events.
  • Implement medical emergency action plan.
  • Document injuries, treatments, and rehabilitation.
  • Maintain medical records.
  • Develop injury‑prevention flexibility and strength programs.
  • Develop progressive rehabilitation programs for safe return to activity.
  • Administer daily treatment, including stretching, massage, and therapeutic modalities.
  • Plan, coordinate, and review physical exam processes and drug testing procedures.
  • Travel with sports teams for medical coverage.
  • Supervise and instruct student trainers in the internship program.
  • Counsel student athletes on injury, health, safety, and nutrition topics.
  • Conduct annual evaluation and professional development of assigned staff.
  • Assist with pre‑ and post‑practice and event preparation of athletes and venue.
  • Attend compliance meetings to maintain knowledge of current policies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Assistant Athletic Trainer
  • Evaluate injuries and determine appropriate care or referral.

  • Document injuries, treatments, and rehabilitation.
  • Maintain medical records.

Required Education

Associate Athletic Trainer
:
Bachelor’s degree in athletic training, kinesiology, or related field from an accredited university.

Assistant Athletic Trainer
:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution of higher education.

Preferred Education
:
Master’s degree in Kinesiology, Physical Education, Athletic Training, or Sports Medicine from an accredited institution.

Licenses/Certifications
  • Authorized to operate a University‑Owned vehicle for official business (subject to a motor vehicle record check).
