POSITION SUMMARY:

Under close supervision by the Assistant Manager, prepares, tracks, and sterilizes instruments supplies in an accurate and timely manner. Prepares, sterile trays and supplies for all procedures at the Urology office. Responsible for decontamination, assembly of packs, operation, cleaning and maintenance of Sterrad and OER Pro machines. Will also help Medical Assistants by maintaining the sample drug closet and log for monthly inspection and submission of log to Pharmacy.

Track inventory and supplies needed to maintain and clean machines and equipment, maintain a log for equipment for repair or replacement by vendor.

POSITION EDUCATION/ QUALIFICATIONS:

• High School diploma or GED equivalent preferred

• Certification obtained from an accredited Medical Assistant program
  • BLS certification required, or must be obtained within 30 days of hire
  • Bilingual - English/Spanish.
JOB KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE:

• Six (6) months of Sterile Processing or Operating Room Technician experience preferred

• Knowledge of sterilization supplies, equipment and instruments

• Knowledge of organizing, containing, and transporting items to offsite locations

• Knowledge of transporting and disposing of hazardous materials and sharp objects according to hospital procedures

• Knowledge of sterilization procedures for office equipment and instruments

• Knowledge of wrapping and repackaging sterilized instruments

• Skill in using sterilization equipment and instruments

• Skill in arranging instruments on surgical trays

• Skill in following written instructions and performing multiple tasks

• Skill in establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with others

• Responsible for ongoing and updating education as required dependent on the new equipment purchased and/or updates in the maintenance of such equipment currently in use at the office

Responsibilities:

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Promotes the facility mission, vision and values by effectively communicating them to others. Considers mission, vision and values in developing services, standards and practices

• Collects dirty equipment and instruments

• Sorts, loads, unload and decontaminate equipment and instruments according to procedures

• Cleans, repackages, and sterilizes instruments according to procedures

• Assembles trays, instruments and equipment and prepares items for sterilization

• Decontaminates, restocks and assembles equipment and surgical trays

• Ensures equipment is prepared and ready for immediate use

• Perform quality control through routine testing and cleaning to assure sterilization equipment and instruments are functioning properly

• Inspect equipment, instruments, and packaging for cleanliness, defects and/or malfunctions

• Document sterilization cycle through a log

• Maintain sterilization machines and call for repair or maintenance as needed

• Labels products with sterilization date

• Performs weekly inspections of all sterile items in the department

• Checks outdated items and package integrity of wrapped sterilized items

• Maintains and updates the instruments tray inventory list following policies and procedures

• Routes patient info to Medical Assistants as designated by supervisor

• Maintains education for sterilization and cleaning of all office instrumentation, and arranges for training as needed on any new or updated procedures
  • Record patients' medical history, vital statistics and information such as test results in medical records.
  • Prepare treatment rooms for patient examinations, keeping the rooms neat and clean.
  • Interview patients to obtain medical information and measure their vital signs, weight, and height.
