Provide high‑level technical skills to ensure the safe operation of all Machine Shop and Engineering (Research and Educational) Lab equipment. Manage the safe distribution, maintenance of supplies and equipment in departmental laboratories and provide user guidance and support.

• Monitor the organization and cleanliness of the laboratory or assigned areas.
• Instruct and supervise students and faculty in the safe operation of all applicable tools and research/educational equipment, and recommend updates.
• Ensure all established safety standards, regulations, and procedures are followed in accordance with state, university, and department regulations.
• Supervise the daily operations of the assigned area, opening and closing the site as per the established schedule.
• Maintain and repair all necessary tools and high‑tech equipment used in research and educational laboratories or assigned areas.
• Prepare materials, equipment, and instrumentation for use in research and educational laboratories or areas and recommend updates as needed.
• Make recommendations regarding facilities planning and equipment selection, installation, and removal of research and educational equipment.
• Maintain the college inventory of research and educational laboratory materials and instruments, ensuring accurate records and requesting purchases when needed.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

• Supervision Received:
  General supervision from assigned supervisor.

  Direct supervision of assigned staff.

• Education: Associate degree from a Technical/Trade school in a related field.
• Experience: Two (2) years of related experience, or Five (5) years of related experience with a High School diploma.
• Licenses/Certifications: None.
• Skills: Mechanical aptitude, problem‑solving ability to diagnose and repair equipment, effective communication with students, staff, and faculty, ability to gather and analyze test data, and maintain accurate records.

• Needs to be able to successfully perform all required duties.
• Office/Lab Environment; some travel and weekend work required.
• Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds frequently, and up to 10 pounds constantly to move objects.
• UTRGV is a distributed institution, requiring presence at multiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley.
