Overview

Fairview Health Services is hiring a Patient Care Supervisor (PCS) to join our Care Suites and Cardiac Cath Lab Teams at M Health Fairview Southdale Hospital located in Edina, MN

The Fairview Southdale Hospital is an award winning multispecialty health care system in the southwest Twin Cities metro area. It is comprised of more than 40 specialty services, using innovative technologies and treatments with the art of medicine.

Care Suites is a 26-bed department that provides comprehensive pre-, intra-, and post-procedural care for a wide range of patients. The team supports procedures such as cardioversions, TEEs, infusions, transfusions, paracentesis, stress testing, and sedation-assisted biopsies. Care Suites serves diverse patient populations across Cardiology, Interventional Radiology, General Radiology, and more, partnering closely with departments including the Cath Lab, EP Lab, Nuclear Medicine, Ultrasound, CT, MRI, PACU, and Same Day Surgery.

The multidisciplinary team includes Registered Nurses, Health Unit Coordinators, and Nursing Assistants/Nursing Station Technicians. RNs are required to hold BLS and ACLS certifications and typically manage a 3–4 patient assignment, with dedicated 1:1 care during procedures. NAs/NSTs support patient flow by rooming patients, assisting nurses, answering call lights, and maintaining unit readiness.

Care Suites operates Monday through Friday from 6:00 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. and is closed on holidays.

The Cath Lab provides advanced cardiovascular and electrophysiology care for adult patients, offering diagnostic, invasive, intraoperative, and non-invasive procedures using ionizing radiation and contrast media. The team performs more than 2,000 CV/EP procedures each year in four state-of-the-art procedure rooms serving both inpatient and outpatient populations.

The multidisciplinary team includes Registered Nurses, Radiologic Technologists, and Cardiovascular Technologists, working in roles such as circulator RN, x-ray technologist, monitor technologist, and scrub technologist. Staff wear hospital scrubs, and the department operates Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with a call rotation that includes nights, weekends, and holidays.

Job Responsibilities

The Patient Care Supervisor is responsible for assisting the Manager/Director with department operations. This includes supervision of personnel and projects as delegated, including but not limited to human resources management, nursing practice, quality and safety, regulatory compliance, finance and other operational accountabilities

  • Partners with Manager/Director to supervise/manage day-to-day or shift-to-shift operations to ensure support of the mission, vision, values and goals of the organization.
  • Assists Manager/Director to plan, manage, coordinate and evaluate patient care activities including staffing, resource management, quality and safety, regulatory compliance, and financial management.
  • Prioritizes assignments to assure timely, productive, and efficient use of resources.
  • Assists NM to manage equipment inventory and supply management within operational budget.
  • Collaborates with Nursing, Provider leadership and other stakeholders to implement and evaluate standards of practice.
  • Collects and analyzes quality data and utilizes process improvement methodology to insure deliver of safe and quality patient care.
  • Assists with department change and acts a change agent in of system change, procedure change and process changes.
  • Demonstrates skills/abilities in provision of patient care
  • Ensures unit protocols, benchmarks, and hospital procedures are initiated appropriately.
  • Assists Manager/Director to develop, implement, monitor and evaluate the quality improvement initiatives.
  • Assists Manager/Director with human resources management to achieve quality service and positive employee relations.
  • Ensures compliance with organizational policies and procedures.
