Pharmacy Technician / Pharm Tech Apprenticeship

Base pay: $17.00/hr – $20.50/hr

The pharmacy technician apprenticeship at Walgreens transforms the traditional transaction‑based role into a patient‑centric one. As a Pharmacy Technician or Pharmacy Technician Apprentice you will interact with customers, develop strong patient relationships, and receive training to become a Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) certified professional.

• Assist the pharmacist, under direct supervision, in the practice of pharmacy and other Pharmacy Department duties, following company policies and procedures.
• Use pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information and process prescriptions accurately.
• Provide a distinctive and delightful customer experience by greeting customers, resolving issues, and sharing customer‑service best practices.
• Empower pharmacy assistants by coaching them on the operation of pharmacy systems and cash registers when certified.

• Engage customers and patients, offer assistance, and ensure a positive experience.
• Model and share customer‑service best practices, including interpersonal habits and Walgreens service traits.
• Develop strong relationships with our most valuable customers.

• Assist the pharmacist under supervision, following state, federal, and company policy and the Walgreens Pharmacy Code of Conduct.
• Enter patient and drug information in pharmacy systems, fill prescriptions, verify accuracy, and check for interactions.
• Report prescription errors immediately and adhere to quality improvement programs.
• Adhere to Good Faith Dispensing policy during dispensing activities.
• Manage sales on assigned cash register and assist in locating products.
• Handle non‑pharmacist telephone calls, including physician calls.
• Process manual claims for third‑party prescription services and perform clerical duties as assigned.
• Support inventory management: ordering, unpacking, checking, and storing pharmaceuticals.
• Assist with clinical services, including sample collection and coordination of Walgreens healthcare clinics.
• Develop relationships with the local medical community and enhance growth opportunities.
• Maintain a clean, orderly pharmacy environment.
• Comply with all company policies, maintain respectful coworker relationships, and complete special assignments.

• Earn and maintain PTCB certification through the designated training program, or pursue certification as a condition of promotion.
• Attend manager‑requested training and acquire continuing education credits.
• Maintain knowledge of healthcare and pharmacy developments.

• Fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English.
• Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends.

• Six months of experience in a retail environment.
• Prior work experience with Walgreens.
• Strong math skills for accurate prescription filling.
• Good computer skills.
• Knowledge of store inventory control.
• PTCB certification.
