Position Summary

The Principal Electrical Engineer defines product requirements, translates requirements to implementable architecture, performs detailed design work, and ensures the end product is optimized for manufacturability.

• Lead electrical design projects and contribute to electrical design best practices
• Instruct, mentor, direct, and check the work of other design engineers
• Translate product requirements into implementable architectures
• Perform detailed electronic design of microprocessor-based platforms and related analog/digital circuits, including circuit drawing, basic analysis, and paper design activity using a schematic CAD tool (Cadence OrCAD or Altium) and simulation with SPICE or Hyper Lynx.
• Conduct design analysis on components and/or assemblies to assist in the development process by ensuring designs are cost efficient, manufacturable, customer focused, and reliable
• Gather technical data and prepare technical documents such as design verification test reports, written rework instructions, PCB placement and routing guidelines, and Analysis of Alternatives documents
• Maintain organized history of design artifacts utilizing a version control system
• Complete assigned engineering projects within budgetary and scheduling guidelines
• Communicate with other engineers and may serve as a project manager to coordinate and assure project completion
• Mentor other engineers as they work through day‑to‑day technical challenges
• Assist or lead in preparing proposal documentation and integrate into customer specifications
• Assist in preparing compliance reports for REACH, RoHS, PFAS, etc.
• Monitor for component obsolescence using Silicon Expert reports and find suitable alternates
• Assist in developing ECOs and route them for needed approvals

• Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or equivalent
• 15+ years of experience in product design
• Experience with embedded systems and microprocessor-based design
• Experience with functional aspects of product design including understanding of requirements, general electrical design analysis and documentation creation, design for manufacturing/design for test, and design verification
• Experience with leading teams including engineers from multiple engineering disciplines
• Working knowledge of oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, spectrum analyzers and vector network analyzers
• Protocol‑level knowledge of serial interfaces including SPI, I2C and UART
• Experience with analog design concepts and design tools such as SPICE and Hyper Lynx preferred
• Experience with RF communications such as Bluetooth, Wi‑Fi (802.11), and cellular
• Experience with high‑speed digital interfaces such as DDR, PCIe, SATA, etc. preferred
• Experience in medical device design or other regulated industries preferred
• Experience with MS Office products including MS Project
• Ability to work with both internal and external (customer) resources
• Ability to analyze customer requirements for feasibility, cost and development timeline
• Strong communication skills including the ability to write technical specifications and design documentation, create and author templates for engineering documents, create project proposals with technical details, and present verbally in one‑on‑one or group settings
• Able to work in a fast‑paced environment with quickly changing priorities to ensure superior customer satisfaction
