Position Summary: The Principal Electrical Engineer will be responsible for engineering work in applied research, design, development, testing, manufacturing, and documentation of products or systems. The Principal Engineer will identify and recommend design solutions, work with customers directly to identify and understand requirements and needs, use research techniques to analyze and validate design or theory concepts, and provide direction and leadership to engineers and engineering technicians related to program-specific work.
You will also interact with senior level professionals both internal and external to AE.
- Responsible for the design and analysis of systems, products, and subsystems/circuits to specification, cost, budget, schedule, and quality goals.
- Diagnose issues of diverse scope with design, field performance, reliability and test yields of products and recommend/implement corrective actions.
- Assume responsibility for the success of the product/system in the customers applications and recommend/implement corrective actions as needed.
- Follow key engineering procedures in the Product Development Process and ECO process.
- Work with manufacturing locations and supply chain groups to implement cost reductions, manufacturability improvements, and quality improvements for existing products.

Works in a noisy, fast-paced power development lab and standard office environment - Flexibility working across time zones as part of a global team, as required
- Uses electronic equipment and can work with high voltage
- Domestic and international travel of up to 10%
- Interfaces with internal and external customers
- Onsite technical support at customer locations
Essential
- Proven professional skills as an experienced engineer with a full understanding of medical practices and company policies/procedures (10+ years of experience)
- Ability to solve complex technical problems independently
- Ability to manage multiple projects at one time
- Excellent verbal, written communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to provide technical mentoring to other team members
- Experience with influencing and negotiating in complex situations
- Power electronics design
- AC/DC and DC/DC switched mode power supply design
- Power Factor Correction design
- EMI and EMC design and resolution
- Magnetic Design
- RF Power Design
- Simulation Package Expertise
- Designing for Safety and Compliance (Medical background a plus)
- Understanding of firmware and coding
- Designing for thermals
- Familiarity with IEC
60601-2-2
- 12+ years of experience
- Experience with Switch Mode Power Supplies / Power Electronics
- B.S. in Electrical or Computer Engineering or related field.
As required by multiple state pay transparency laws, Advanced Energy provides a reasonable range of compensation for each job posting. Actual compensation is influenced by an array of factors including, but not limited to, skill set, level of experience, and specific office location. The range of starting pay for this role is $125,000 to $150,000 per year.
