Position: Community Service Worker I (Streets)

Overview

Do you have previous construction experience? Are you interested in snow plowing? Join our dedicated and hardworking team of laborers. We are accepting applications for a Community Service Worker I position in the Street Maintenance Division. This role uses knowledge of light automotive, heavy construction, and mechanized equipment to operate equipment and perform labor-intensive work related to the maintenance of roads, bridges, and appurtenances, including snow and ice removal from streets and sidewalks.

Responsibilities
  • Operate equipment and perform labor-intensive tasks related to street and bridge maintenance (e.g., excavating, mowing, brush cutting, weed trimming, compressor and jackhammer operation, catch basin cleaning, asphalt paving, concrete work).
  • Perform crack sealing and spray patching; assist with grading, formwork, finishing concrete, and related activities as required.
  • Report to and assist with emergency operations, including snow removal, within 45 minutes of notification.
  • Maintain equipment through basic service tasks (refueling, lubrication, cleaning, inspection, and minor maintenance).
  • Follow safety protocols while working in heavy traffic and, when needed, direct traffic to protect pedestrians, motorists, and the work crew.
  • Complete daily paperwork, timesheets, and progress reports as required.
  • Work in a team environment and be able to adapt to assignments across divisions as needed.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent (GED, etc.).
  • Valid Wisconsin Class B CDL with no air brake restrictions (must obtain within six months of hire; tanker endorsement preferred).
  • Ability to report to the Central Maintenance Facility (910 Forest Street, Eau Claire) within 45 minutes for snow removal and other emergency operations.
  • Preferred: prior experience in street/highway construction, asphalt/concrete patching, operating heavy equipment, and snow removal with single axle plow trucks or similar equipment.

Work Schedule and Application Details
  • Regular hours:
    Monday – Friday, 7:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
