Summer Programs Assistant Instructor

Reports To: STEAM Programs Manager

Job Summary

This temporary position is responsible for instructing and facilitating activities during our summer program classes at Pablo Center at the Confluence. The role offers a unique opportunity to lead and facilitate engaging, project‑based learning experiences for students.

Job Details

Job Type: Part‑time

Salary: $17 per hour

Class Topics: Art and design, theater, world dance, STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Math), Rube Goldberg simple physics machines, board game design, Dungeons & Dragons, coding, and LEGO robotics (Mindstorm and SPIKE kits). The full class list will be shared with applicants.

Student Level: Varied classes for students entering grades 3‑5, 4‑6, 7‑9, and 7‑10.

Duties
  • Assist in classroom instruction, including presenting on assigned topics, demonstrating skills, facilitating ice breakers and brain‑break activities.
  • Help students during work time by offering guidance without giving answers, moving through the room to provide support, and encouraging use of the design process.
  • Assist with student drop‑off and pick‑up and manage students during walking field trips.
  • Encourage a kind, collaborative, creative, and energetic classroom.
  • Provide a safe space for all students to succeed and learn.
  • Assist with classroom clean‑up and rearranging when needed.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
  • Ability to create lesson plans and document curriculum.
Preferred Skills
  • Experience working with children.
  • Ability to problem solve.
Required Skills
  • Read a classroom and adapt to students’ needs.
  • Communicate confidently in front of a classroom.
  • Excellent organizational and time‑management skills.
Willing To Learn Skills
  • LEGO Mind storms or SPIKE, block coding, and/or basic art and design programs.
