Job Title:
Installation and Commissioning Technician
The Installation & Commissioning Technician is responsible for providing onsite electrical installation supervision and commissioning support for industrial automation systems. This role involves overseeing electrical installation activities, ensuring quality wiring and termination practices, conducting IO checkout and device configuration, commissioning drives and PLC systems, and supporting functional testing through full system operation. The position requires strong hands‑on troubleshooting skills, the ability to lead technicians onsite, and clear technical documentation throughout all project phases.
Responsibilities- Read, interpret, and work from AutoCAD electrical drawings and wiring schedules.
- Create and maintain accurate As‑Started / As‑Built drawing markups.
- Direct and supervise technicians onsite for wire pulling, cable routing, and wire termination in electrical enclosures.
- Ensure adherence to best practices for industrial wiring, termination, labeling, and routing.
- Assist with wiring and termination activities as needed.
- Apply proper industrial wiring techniques for power circuits, digital signals, analog signals, and safety circuits.
- Perform cold IO checks and power‑on checks using industry‑approved procedures.
- Conduct basic commissioning activities including cold checks, power checks, and wiring and component troubleshooting.
- Configure devices per manufacturer documentation, including the person and controllers, remote IO, drives, network switches, and networked safety components.
- Perform firmware updates, communication configuration, and parameter setup per project documentation.
- Execute IO checkout using PLC programs for digital, analog, and safety inputs and outputs.
- Perform basic drive commissioning, including communication configuration, motor parameterization, motion and direction checks, and auto‑tuning.
- Troubleshoot issues related to wiring, configuration, and hardware.
- Understand and troubleshoot safety circuits.
- Interpret customer specifications, electrical drawings, mechanical drawings, and project documentation.
- Perform advanced IO checkout and systematic troubleshooting.
- Execute drive commissioning beyond basic setup.
- Understand and work with PLC, HMI, and related control system programs.
- Systematically test and troubleshoot system operation in manual and automatic modes using PLC and HMI.
- Support production startup activities.
- Provide operator training and production support as required.
- Strong understanding of industrial electrical systems and control panels.
- Hands‑on experience with PLCs, drives, IO systems, and safety circuits.
- Ability to supervise and direct technicians in the field.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem‑solving skills.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills.
The work environment involves onsite supervision and hands‑on activities in industrial settings. The candidate will use technologies and equipment such as PLCs, drives, and control panels. The role requires adherence to safety standards and best practices in electrical installations.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract position based out of Eastlake, OH.
Pay And BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $25.00 - $35.00/hr.
