The Role
NHS Lanarkshire Cancer Nursing Service are seeking applications for highly motivated, enthusiastic and dynamic registered nurses to join their Breast Care Specialist Nursing Team. Experienced registered nurses who are committed to providing quality evidence based cancer care with a personal commitment to life long learning aligned to the NES NMAHP framework and ACCEND, are welcomed to apply.
The role of the Cancer Clinical Nurse Specialist is highly specialised. These positions provide cancer service across NHS Lanarkshire which comprises three district general hospitals providing comprehensive person centred cancer care. Coordination of the complex care needs of people with upper GI cancer across all stages of the patient’s pathway from diagnosis through treatment and follow up or end of life care are key components of the posts.
Organisational, time management and excellent communication skills are required.
As part of a multidisciplinary / multiagency team, the post holder will manage a specialist caseload, using evidence based practice and client centred principles to assess, plan and implement care, provide expert advice and support, operating within a defined specialism across NHS Lanarkshire.
To contribute to the development and implementation of a programme of clinical audit and research activity.
Contribute to the supervision, education and development of members of the multidisciplinary team.
Provide effective leadership within scope of role.

Whatwe’ll need you to bring
- Registered Nurse or AHP with valid NMC / HCPC Registration
- Educated to Degree Level
- Post graduate qualification at a minimum of Level 10 (Hons) or working towards
- Expertise within speciality / area of practice that demonstrates the required breadth of knowledge required to lead safety, effectively and efficiently.
- Comprehensive knowledge of clinical guidelines and standards within the speciality / area of practice.
- Specialist knowledge and experience of relevant conditions, pathology, policies and procedures associated with the speciality/area of practice ensuring that the level of expertise can be utilised to deliver leadership within speciality / area of practice.
- Leadership skills to enable the day to day management of service delivery.
- Further education/evidence of Continuous Professional Development in area of speciality including study days/courses/post graduate qualification
- The post holder will possess excellent team-working/leadership skills and have the ability to motivate others and work using own initiative
- Excellent listening, communication and interpersonal skills.
- Effective time management skills
- Working knowledge of basic information technology
A driving licence is required, this must be a full UK/EU/EEA licence.

- Non-medical prescribing
- Clinical assessment / examination skills
- Master’s Degree
- Experience of working with people affected by breast cancer
- Experience of working with a CNS team.
- Experience of nurse led clinics
- Experience of MDT working
- Knowledge and understanding of the breast cancer patient pathway
- Knowledge and understanding of relevant cancer policies and strategies.
- Knowledge and understanding of professional and educational frameworks in cancer nursing
