Position Summary

The High School Counselor implements Eastmont's Comprehensive School Counseling Framework to promote academic achievement, career and college readiness, and social-emotional development for all students. This position provides direct and indirect services, using data to identify needs, remove barriers to learning, and ensure equitable access to opportunities for every student.

Essential Functions:

Direct Student Services

* Provide individual and small group counseling to address academic planning, graduation requirements, post-secondary readiness, attendance, behavior, and social-emotional needs.

* Deliver classroom-based guidance lessons aligned with district counseling priorities and grade-level outcomes.

* Support students in developing self-advocacy, resilience, and problem-solving skills.

* Assist students with credit monitoring, and post-secondary pathways (college, career, military, apprenticeships).

* Provide crisis intervention and short-term responsive services as needed.

* Monitor student progress toward graduation.

Indirect Student Services

* Collaborate with administrators, teachers, families, and support staff to develop intervention plans for students experiencing academic, attendance, behavioral, or social-emotional barriers.

* Participate, create and manage actively in MTSS, Student Support Teams, 504 meetings, and other collaborative problem-solving processes.

* Conduct home visits, when appropriate, to address attendance and engagement concerns.

* Coordinate referrals to district programs and community agencies to support families in crisis or in need of additional resources.

* Facilitate parent/teacher conferences and family meetings as appropriate.

Program Leadership & System Support

* Use student data (attendance, behavior, course performance, credit accrual, assessment results) to identify trends, conduct needs assessments, and develop targeted interventions.

* Assist in the implementation and evaluation of the school counseling program in alignment with district goals.

* Communicate counseling objectives and available supports to students, families, and staff.

* Support orientation programs for new students and families.

* Contribute to professional learning and provide guidance-related consultation to staff as needed.

* Participate in school activities and initiatives that promote student connection and belonging.

* Perform other duties as assigned by administration.

* Demonstrated ability to build rapport and maintain effective working relationships with students, families, staff, and community members.

* Commitment to serving a diverse student population across a full range of academic and social-emotional needs.

* Skill in behavior intervention, conflict resolution, and positive behavior supports.

* Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.

* Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and exercise professional judgment.

* Ability to work collaboratively as part of multidisciplinary teams.

* Cultural competency and ability to work effectively in diverse, multicultural, and socio-economic settings.

* Commitment to ongoing professional growth and implementation of best practices.

* Professional demeanor, reliability, and consistent attendance.

Qualifications:

* Valid Washington State Educational Staff Associate (ESA) Certificate with School Counselor endorsement (required).

* Prior counseling experience preferred.

* Must maintain all required licenses and certifications as a condition of employment.

* Bilingual required. Ability to communicate effectively in English and Spanish to include reading, writing, and speaking.

* Ability to establish rapport with students, colleagues, and classified personnel

Physical Requirements:

The job's functions requires the following physical demands:

* Occasional lifting (up to 30 pounds); carrying, pushing and/or pulling; some climbing; some stooping, kneeling, crouching and/or crawling; and significant reaching, handling, speaking, writing, hearing, and fine finger dexterity; frequent standing, walking, and sitting.
