Preschool Teacher

Description

Instruct preschool aged students using the Early Learning and Development Guidelines as well as research based curriculums and pedagogies.

Development and implementation of Functional Behavioral Assessments (FBAs) and Behavioral Intervention Plans (BIPs) along with sensory integration planning.

Design and maintain a structured environment addressing key elements such as learning, safety, and behavioral methodologies.

Schedule and conduct IEP meetings to discuss student's progress, placement, or programming with parents, other teachers, specialists, partnering agencies, and administrators.

Draft and implement IEPs, assess students' performance, and track their progress throughout the school year.

Supervise and mentor teacher assistants who work with students with and without disabilities.

Work in a collegial and professional manner with all staff within the program.

Act as substitute teacher as assigned in the District.

Other duties as assigned by the Director of Special Education or Executive Director of Secondary Education

Qualifications:

• Valid Washington State Teaching Certificate or the ability to obtain one.
• Special Education Certification required.
• Previous successful teaching experience with students with disabilities preferred.
• Early Childhood Education Certification (P-4) preferred; K-8 required.
• Previous successful teaching experience with preschool students preferred.
• Safety Care Certified preferred.
• Successful experiences with AAC devices and PECS trained preferred.
• Demonstrated knowledge of ABA methodologies and Verbal Behavior Approach and application.
• Mastery knowledge of state and federal laws regarding students with disabilities
• Demonstrated IEP writing skills
• Knowledge of Early Learning Benchmarks preferred.
• Excellent attendance required.

Physical Requirements:

The job's functions requires the following physical demands:

• Occasional lifting (up to 30 pounds); carrying, pushing and/or pulling; some running; some climbing; some stooping, kneeling, crouching and/or crawling; and significant reaching, handling, speaking, writing, hearing, and fine finger dexterity; frequent standing, walking, and sitting.
• Occasional crisis management of students in emotional or physical dysregulation.
• Occasional assistance with student self care such as: toileting, feeding, and use of medical equipment such as lifts, braces, standers, and chairs.
