PositionSummary
The Construction Trainer is responsible for managing construction projects and delivering high-quality training and instruction to opportunity youth and program participants from underrepresented populations. You will guide participants through a nationally recognized construction curriculum, providing the technical and employability skills necessary to transition into a Department of Labor (DOL) Registered Apprenticeship Program or relevant job.
Key Responsibilities- Instructional Delivery: Lead classroom instruction and hands‑on laboratory sessions using approved construction curriculum after gaining certification to teach curriculum (i.e. HBI Pact Core or NCCER), this includes the basics of residential rehab, trades introduction, tool identification and use, safety, construction math, professionalism and employability skills.
- Work-Based Learning: Supervise work-based learning projects in the lab and at community job sites, providing real-time feedback and training, ensuring safety and proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
- Curriculum & learning objectives: become extremely familiar with curriculum and work to identify tangible curriculum supports to address learning barriers students may encounter.
- Participant Support: Provide tutoring and academic support to help participants overcome learning barriers. Create necessary action plans to support participants struggling with learning assessments.
- Assessment & Evaluation: Administer and score necessary student assessments to track progress and program success.
- Data Management: Track and report daily participant attendance and progress.

Integrate training on life skills and construction workplace culture to prepare participants for long-term career success. - Job sites & tools: Manage jobsites, training spaces and tools as appropriate to projects.
- Networking: Network and build relationships within the construction industry to strengthen R3’s impact and capacity.
- 2nd Saturdays: Oversee the planning and coordination of monthly volunteer workdays ("2nd Saturdays") and related construction projects.
- Inventory: Assist with the maintenance, security, organization, and inventory of construction tools, equipment, vehicles, materials, properties and other assets as needed.
Skills & Qualifications
- Technical Expertise: Minimum of 5 years of hands‑on experience in construction trades and building crafts with a strong ability to teach the fundamentals of the skilled trades to the next generations (must become certified to teach approved construction curriculum.)
- Equity Focus: An understanding of how race, ethnicity, and gender impact access to the construction industry with the ability to foster a sense of belonging for all participants.
- Communication: Ability to practice empathic listening and provide supportive communication that frames participants as future professionals.
- Certifications: Familiarity with nationally recognized construction certifications.
- Role Model: Integrity and an excellent mentor and role model for participants.
- Leadership: Excellent leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
- Experience: working in historically underserved or economically disadvantaged communities, especially with minority youth populations from trauma.
- Lifting: Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
- Conditions: Ability to work in various weather conditions and stand for up to 8 hours a day.
- Manual Dexterity: Ability to demonstrate precise movements with hand and power tools, including bending, reaching and squatting.
- Base Salary: $30.00/hr+
