Overview
The Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) is a Registered Nurse prepared at the Master’s level and certified as a clinical specialist in child and adolescent mental health nursing. The Psychiatric CNS has advanced knowledge and clinical skills in psychiatric diagnoses and treatment, which may include prescriptive authority, individual, group and family psychotherapy, crisis intervention, case management and consultation. The Psychiatric CNS works in various positions involved in evaluation, treatment and care of children and adolescents with psychiatric illness and or emotional/behavioral disturbances and their families.

Responsibilities- Consistently applies corporate values of respect, honesty and fairness and pursues excellence in improving health status.

- Assessment, diagnosis and treatment of individuals with acute and chronic psychiatric illnesses or emotional/behavioral disturbances.
- Clinical evaluation of patients in seclusion/restraints.
- Psychopharmacologic management in collaboration with a psychiatrist.
- Provide individual, group and family therapy; crisis intervention and emergency evaluations.
- Coordinate and integrate multidisciplinary services for clients with complex psychiatric problems.
- Provide comprehensive psychiatric–mental health education.
- Support individuals and families around developmental milestones, life changes and catastrophic events.
- Clinical supervision and consultation.
- Promote wellness-oriented care with focus on disease and disability prevention.
- Advocate for children with mental health issues and their families.
- Participate in research studies.
- Timely and accurate completion of all required documentation.
- Independently licensed clinician at Bradley Hospital.
- Includes assessment, diagnosis, treatment, psychopharmacologic management, therapy, crisis intervention, coordination of multidisciplinary services, education, advocacy, scholarship and research.
- Registered Nurse licensure in Rhode Island (or via NCSBN Compact).
- Master of Science in Nursing with specialization in child and adolescent psychiatry from an accredited institution.
- Current ANCC certification as Advanced Practice Registered Nurse with prescriptive authority, DEA# and compliance with state mandates.
- Demonstrated knowledge and skills for care of patients across aging, human development, and cultural patterns.
- Three to five years of clinical experience working with children and adolescents with mental health needs.
- Experience in crisis intervention with patients with psychiatric-mental health issues.
Physical Requirements
Sits, stands and walks intermittently during the day. May lift up to 35 pounds.

Work Type & HoursMon. 7am-5pm, Tues. 8am-6pm, Wed. 12pm-10pm, Fri. 7am-5pm. Day shift. 10 hours per day. No driving required.
