What you will do-

The Engineering Intern will work closely with Process Safety, Reliability, and Process Engineering teams to maintain and improve P&IDs (Process and Instrumentation Diagrams). The role includes updating and developing Work Instructions and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to ensure accurate and up-to-date Process Safety Information (PSI) is available. Additionally, the intern will support production uptime improvements, creation and organization of documentation related to existing control systems.

This position is based at Aspen Aerogels, Inc aerogel manufacturing facility in East Providence, Rhode Island, USA.

How will you do it-

Engineering Intern:

  • Will support/lead the update of P& (Process & Instrumentation Diagram)
  • by site walkthrough - collection of information from name plates in the field
  • ABB/Rockwell system.
  • Ensure compliance with safety and quality standards in all C&A activities.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives to optimize control systems and enhance manufacturing processes.
  • Monitor and analyze key performance metrics related to automation and control systems, making data-driven decisions to improve overall plant performance.
  • Participate as required in developing or implementing testing protocols for process optimization, enhancement, and troubleshooting.
  • Adopt and follow Aspen's core values of Safety, Quality, Integrity, Teamwork, Customer, and Innovation on both a personal and professional level.
  • Provide updates to leadership and stakeholders on the progress of C&A initiatives, highlighting successes, challenges, and potential solutions.

Manufacturing Support:

  • Work with production, engineering, and maintenance to identify and communicate daily issues, priorities, and production changes.
  • Identify opportunities that enhance manufacturing processes and efficiency.
  • Provide troubleshooting support to isolate problem causes and provide guidance for corrective actions (e.g., controls/graphics, field devices, electrical, IT platforms).
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by management.

Why you are right for the job-

  • General knowledge of and adherence to regulations and standards relevant to safety and engineering in hazardous industrial and manufacturing environments.
  • Minimum of 2 years towards a 4-year bachelor's degree in a Chemical or Mechanical engineering or science related discipline.
  • Possess communication and interpersonal skills for effective presentation, problem resolution, and interaction with multiple disciplines.
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills to identify and resolve control system issues efficiently with the ability to make sound decisions under pressure and implement effective solutions.
  • General knowledge of project management.
  • Proficient with various software packages, i.e. MS Word/Excel/PPT/Teams/Outlook.
