Overview

Telecare Poplar House in East Palo Alto is an Enhanced Behavioral Supports Home (EBSH). EBSHs provide 24‑hour non‑medical care in a homelike setting to adults with developmental disabilities who exhibit challenging behaviors. The homes offer person‑centered planning, positive behavior supports, trauma‑informed care, and other services beyond what is typically available in community‑based homes.

Shift Available

Short‑Hour Friday‑Saturday NOC; 11:00 PM–7:00 AM (16 hrs; 0.4 FTE)

Compensation

Expected starting wage range is $32.52 – $36.25 /hr. Telecare pay differentials are 5% for AM weekend, 6% for PM weekday, 11% for PM weekend, 10% for NOC weekday, and 15% for NOC weekend.

Position Summary

Under the supervision of the Program Administrator, provide rehabilitative support services for adults with developmental disabilities with challenging behavior service needs.

Qualifications
  • High School Graduation or G.E.D.
  • One (1) year experience providing direct care to individuals with developmental disabilities with challenging behavior service needs.
  • Board certified as a Registered Behavior Technician within 60 days of initial employment or be a Qualified Behavior Modification Professional.
  • Within one year of employment, all direct care staff shall complete both segments of Direct Support Professional (DSP) competency‑based training, including the competency tests or passing the department‑approved challenge tests. Proof of prior successful completion of both training segments and competency exams meets this requirement.
  • Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age.
  • Must be CPR, First Aid, and CPI certified (hands‑on course) on date of employment or prior to providing direct client care and maintain current certification throughout employment.
  • Must be trained in the use of restraints within guidelines of Ukeru crisis prevention intervention techniques.
  • All opportunities at Telecare are contingent upon successful completion of a post‑offer physical examination, a 2‑step PPD test for tuberculosis, acceptable criminal background clearance, and any other applicable regulatory, contractual, or local requirements. A valid driver’s license, motor vehicle clearance, and proof of auto insurance are required if the position involves driving and must be maintained throughout employment.
Essential Functions
  • Demonstrate the Telecare mission, purpose, values, and beliefs in everyday language and in contact with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Participate as delegated or as needed as a member of a multidisciplinary treatment team and assist in evaluation and assessment, treatment planning, and discharge planning for each person served.
  • Assign shift tasks to direct care staff, including but not limited to house‑cleaning, person‑served care, cooking, activities, client appointments, etc.
  • Provide training to direct care staff on the needs of the person served and on the performance of their job duties.
  • Assign staff to work with persons served based on their individual needs.
  • Maintain legal and regulatory compliance and complete all reporting requirements for covered shifts to licensing and regulatory bodies.
  • Assist persons served to take prescribed medications and ensure direct care staff understand medication indications and side‑effects.
  • Provide direct client care in 1:1 and group settings utilizing applied behavior analysis (ABA) principles and natural environment training arrangements.
  • Collect, record, and summarize data on observable client behavior.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work and therapeutic environment.
  • Collaborate with the individual support team and partnering agencies.
  • Maintain and acquire technical knowledge by attending required trainings.
  • Maintain daily logs and data reports.
  • Maintain knowledge of all active support plans for persons served at the program.
