Introduction
Are you a hospitality professional in Connecticut who is looking to transform the lives of our incarcerated population? The State of Connecticut, Department of Correction (DOC) Unified School District #1 is seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Hospitality Instructor (Vocational Instructor) to teach about the core functions of the Hospitality Industry, including:
Hotel & Front Office Operations, Housekeeping, Food & Beverage, Lodging and Events & Meetings.
In this course, students will learn all aspects of the hospitality business such as how to utilize media related outreach, the accounting process and the integral nature of human resources (hiring, firing of staff, training and evaluation of employees). Students will also learn basic food preparation, and how to work in a wide range of departments within Hospitality and Hotel Management.
We are looking for candidates who possess a high school (or equivalency) diploma and eight (8) years of employment and/or teaching experience in the hospitality industry. Unified School District (USD) #1 follows a 12-month school calendar, 222 school days per year - LOCATION:
York Correctional Institution (East Lyme, CT) - TRAINING:
Selected candidates may be required to present a lesson plan in front of students in one of our Correctional Facilities as part of the interview process. Candidates selected for hire are required to attend a fourteen (14) week training at the CT DOC Training Academy. More details can be found in the Selection Plan of this job bulletin.
Candidates new to the State of Connecticut will start on Step one of the pay plan, in the tier that their highest level of education corresponds to. Starting salary is non-negotiable. Salary details derived from the P-3B T1-T4 35 Hour Pay Plan are outlined below:

Step 1 (minimum) $68,792 $ 72,241 $ 77,294
Step 11-14 (maximum) $104,174 $ 122,335 $ 130,898
