Position SummarySalary: $33.64–$38.43 hourly upon meeting progression step requirements. MSU benefits include comprehensive health care, a 10% contribution toward retirement, generous sick, vacation, personal and holiday time. Regular in‑person attendance is required. The department provides uniforms, safety boots, access to state‑of‑the‑art technology and tools, views of Spartan Stadium, and a safe, stable environment.
Job Responsibilities- 40% – Work directly with customers, responding to projects, building trouble calls, retro‑commissioning service calls, and performing repairs.
- 20% – Perform preventative maintenance of commercial HVAC systems.
- 20% – Installation and servicing of commercial HVAC systems and controls.
- 10% – Mechanical system inspection.
- 10% – Correspondence through email, training, meetings and professional development.
- Completion of a high school education or an equivalent combination of technical training and experience.
- Successful completion of an applicable trade‑specific Trades Helper program, apprenticeship program, associate degree, or equivalent education/experience.
- Five years’ experience in the trade that includes commercial heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) installation, maintenance and troubleshooting.
- Must pass an assessment to receive progression step increases at and after the 18‑month mark.
- Expert knowledge of applicable building codes, rules, and regulations (local, state and federal).
- Expert knowledge of the methods, materials, tools, equipment, occupational hazards, and safety precautions of the trade.
- Possession of a valid vehicle operator's license.
- Must furnish own tools.
- Frequent lifting of 26–75 pounds and occasional lifting over 75 pounds.
Five or more years of experience in the operation and maintenance of central commercial‑industrial HVAC systems, including troubleshooting, diagnosing, and repair of direct digital control systems; familiarity with individualized package control systems; possession of a State of Michigan mechanical contractor’s license with unlimited heating; experience with Phoenix Lab Pressurization Control, Siemens Building Management System, Delta Building Management System, room‑level pressurization controls, laboratory ventilation controls, and Hydronic heating systems;
comprehensive understanding of HVAC systems and component interactions; experience with instruments used for testing, adjusting, and balancing (TAB); excellent customer relations skills; proficient in the use of a laptop computer; a lifelong learner and problem‑solver with strong technical and communication skills.

Work HoursNon‑standard/variable work hours:
Monday through Friday 8:00 am to 4:30 pm, may require after‑hours, weekend and holiday work.
Lifting and carrying up to 75 pounds; pushing/pulling; climbing ladders, stairs, and working from various types of equipment, including scaffolding.
