Position Summary

Michigan State University seeks a highly skilled and motivated Marketing Cloud Administrator to support our dynamic University Communications and Marketing office on the CRM Team. This team develops and administers various application across MSU including Spartan One Stop application and various smaller Salesforce applications.

This position is responsible for the day-to-day administration, configuration, and custom development within the enterprise Salesforce Marketing Cloud (SFMC) platform. The ideal candidate will possess a strong technical background in SFMC, including system administration, data management, and development using AMPscript, SQL, and APIs. This position plays a critical role in empowering marketers in the central communications and marketing and central fundraising and alumni relations offices colleges and other key units by ensuring a stable, efficient, and well-supported platform, enabling effective and personalized digital communications.

Minimum Requirements

Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program; three to five years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in an information technology area; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Desired Qualifications
  • Experience as a Salesforce Marketing Cloud administrator and/or developer
  • Proven experience with SFMC platform configuration, including Business Units, roles, permissions, and security settings
  • Demonstrated experience with SFMC Studios (Email Studio, Content Builder, Journey Builder, Automation Studio, Mobile Studio) and Builders
  • Experience working in a large, decentralized, complex organization
  • Experience supporting a diverse user base with varying technical skill levels
  • Strong proficiency in AMPscript for dynamic content personalization and advanced scripting
  • Proficiency in SQL for complex data segmentation and querying within SFMC
  • Solid understanding of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript for email and landing page development
  • Experience with SFMC APIs (REST/SOAP) and integration best practices;
  • Knowledge of data management principles, data architecture, and relational database concepts within SFMC (Data Extensions, Contact Builder, data relationships)
  • Familiarity with marketing automation principles, campaign setup, and execution
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues independently
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to delivering high‑quality, accurate work
  • Ability to communicate technical information effectively to both technical and non‑technical audiences
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a customer service‑oriented approach
  • Proven ability to work effectively as part of a team and collaborate with diverse stakeholders
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast‑paced environment
  • Self‑motivated with the ability to work independently and meet deadlines
  • Salesforce Certified Marketing Cloud Administrator;
    Salesforce Certified Marketing Cloud Email Specialist;
    Salesforce Certified Marketing Cloud Developer
