Role OverviewThe Human Resources Manager is a critical role that supports the AWH Lansing, MI, Monroe, OH, and Smithfield, PA Cultivation and Operations teams, as we rapidly and sustainably scale. The HR Manager will establish their role as a trusted partner who collaborates with the Cultivation and Operations leadership team and associates to help build and strategically drive the organization. Our ideal candidate will have a history of developing performance-related processes, engagement, and development routines across a highly dynamic and evolving footprint.
Both strategic and hands-on, the HR Manager welcomes solving challenging problems, builds strong relationships, develops the on-site Human Resources team, and thrives on having a direct connection to the Cultivation and Operations team at the site.
Lansing Cultivation/Production Facility;
Monday-Friday. Travel to PA and OH sites expected twice per quarter.
- Partner with site leadership on all aspects of human resources functions at the location, including various aspects of our people practices.
- Plan, organize, and maintain the HR strategy including staffing needs, organizational design, and talent management/development.
- Develop, recommend, and implement human resources policies and procedures with buy-in from site leadership.
- Administer compensation programs and practices including the annual performance review and merit/salary planning activities.
- Manage leaves of absence.
- Oversee routine HR programs and processes including benefits administration (site and annual open enrollment); payroll practices and procedures.
- Partner with the site HR team to maintain accurate employee records, files, badging, reports, policies, and procedures to continually improve HR service efficiency.
- Participate in onsite Cultivation and Operations Leadership staff meetings and HR-required meetings as scheduled.
- Manage, coach, and mentor the onsite HR team, including all aspects of the employee relationship—hiring, development, career pathing, performance management, goal setting, etc.
- Collaborate with site supervisors and managers on performance documentation and progressive discipline; provide guidance on complex, specialized, and sensitive issues; may administer routine tasks such as accommodations, investigations, and terminations.
- Collaborate with Environmental Health and Safety and Compliance to ensure effectiveness of employee safety programs and protocols.
- Define the Cultivation and Operations strategy and goals with site Leadership and identify talent management initiatives to support this strategy.
- Work with HR peers to address Talent Acquisition, Total Rewards, Learning and Development, Employee Relations, and Communications.
- Assist with driving performance, engagement, and development of HR Cultivation and Operations site teams.
- Address employee relations concerns, conduct investigations, and coach the team as needed.
- Ensure effective delivery of programs related to performance, engagement, and development in partnership with Learning and Development.
- Monitor key performance indicators (e.g., turnover) and drive programs to improve KPI results.
- Model the highest standards of integrity, confidentiality, and professionalism.
- Maintain knowledge of federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, best practices, and trends in HR and talent management.
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business, or related discipline preferred; an Associate's degree may be substituted with commensurate experience.
- HR certification is a plus.
- 5+ years of progressive experience in Human Resources; manufacturing or operations environment preferred.
- Ability to operate at both strategic and tactical levels and to manage detail impact on teams.
- Strong assessment skills, good judgment, and perspective on HR opportunities.
- Ability to build and deliver an HR strategy informed by the organization and associates; strong generalist experience required.
- Quick learner with a passion for innovative HR solutions and process improvement.
- Experience as a player/coach, able to perform hands-on work and also coach the team.
- Experience leading and managing an HR team.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office; intermediate Excel; experience with HRIS/payroll systems and other HR platforms.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present ideas clearly and persuasively.
- Strong execution, interpersonal skills, and ability to build rapport with employees at all levels.
