Part Time Staff Accountant

Description We are looking for a skilled Staff Accountant to join our team in East Lansing, Michigan. This is a contract position with the potential for long-term employment, offering part-time hours ranging from 10 to 20 hours per week, with increased workload at the start of each month. While most tasks can be performed remotely, some on-site work will be required.

The role focuses on supporting financial operations for a non-profit organization, including managing government and corporate grants.

Responsibilities:

- Prepare and analyze financial statements, ensuring accuracy and compliance with accounting standards.

- Manage accounts payable and receivable transactions efficiently.

- Perform monthly budget versus actual reporting to monitor financial performance.

- Handle journal entries and maintain the general ledger with precision.

- Assist in preparing corporate tax returns and sales tax filings.

- Use Quick Books Online to manage and track financial data.

- Support grant management processes, including government and corporate pledges.

- Collaborate with team members to ensure timely completion of accounting tasks.

- Provide insights and recommendations for improving financial processes.

- Occasionally work on-site to oversee specific accounting activities. Requirements - Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.

- Proficiency in Quick Books Online and other accounting software.

- Solid understanding of corporate tax, sales tax, and tax return preparation.

- Experience with journal entries and general ledger maintenance.

- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.

- Ability to work part-time hours with flexibility for increased workload during peak periods.

- Familiarity with non-profit financial operations and grant management.

- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
