Overview
Sets-up and operates CNC Turning, Multi-Axis lathes, and other Turning equipment to produce highly precision component parts that meet all quality standards.
Responsibilities- Set-up and operate CNC Lathes (2-axis and multi-axis) (e.g. Eurotech, Hardinge, etc.).
- Work with blueprints, operation sheets, and other work instructions.
- Working from blueprints, operation sheets, travelers or other specifications, set-ups and complete the machining operations to produce a quality part.
- Check that the material to be used meets all specifications. Obtain bar stock or material from staging area.
- Perform complex set-ups of own work or for others. Make all required adjustments to the machinery. Obtain tooling, gauges, inserts and all other equipment needed to complete the set-up and bring up the program. Edit the program as necessary.
- Assist other Operators or Set-up/Operators with set-up or production problems and help to train other set-up/operators.
- Ensure that all manufactured parts are in full compliance with quality standards. Perform visual inspections (part relationship to operation sheet/blueprint configuration) and perform actual dimensional verification using measuring instruments as per the guidelines established by the department or the Quality Assurance Department.
- Replace worn or damaged tooling as necessary. Verify and record actual part count, both prior to and upon completion of all work.
- Perform routine maintenance on the equipment and maintain all fluid levels. Keep the equipment and work area clean and organized. Return excess bar stock or material to the staging area.
- Move the finished work to an assigned area. Enter all work performed into the database and document all scrap. Notify lead person or supervisor of any parts shortages or machining problems/difficulties.
- Pack and wash/preserve parts as needed. Perform other machining and assembly operations as needed. Perform other related duties as required. Interact with associates from all departments.
- High School diploma or equivalent. Technical school training a plus.
- 3 years of set-up experience minimum required.
- Experience with aerospace products and/or other close tolerance parts is a plus.
- Must be familiar with Fanuc and/or Okuma Controls.
- Must be able to set and change tools.
- Must be able to use standard gauges and inspection techniques.
- Experience with SPC, inspection documentation, and problem solving is a plus.
- Strong interpersonal and analytical skills.
- Must be able to read and write comments, understand operation sheets/blueprints, specifications, and all applicable company/customer paperwork.
- Must be able to read CNC programs.
- Five plus years of increasingly diverse experience in a machine shop or CNC machining environment.
- Ability to push/pull/carry up to 50 lbs.
- Able to stand for up to 8+ hours.
