The Behavioral Health Clinician – Licensed SBHC is a licensed independent Behavioral Health provider who supports students and their families as a CHC employee in a school-based clinic. The clinician performs diagnostic psychosocial evaluations, develops care plans with clients and their families, offers individual, family, or group therapy as appropriate, and collaborates with psychiatric and/or medical providers who are part of the client’s care team.
The clinician will document all clinical interventions in accordance with CHC policy, Joint Commission standards, and state regulatory expectations. The position is primarily focused on direct client care but may include supervision of unlicensed staff and/or students.
This School Based Health Clinician is a full-time salaried position that follows a school-based calendar, mirroring the school schedule of 195 days per year.
Responsibilities- Complete initial behavioral health evaluations; provide individual, group, and family psychotherapy with children and/or adults in an outpatient clinic.
- Run at least five (5) groups per week as direct clinical work.
- Work as part of an interdisciplinary, inter-professional team; accept “warm hand offs” from primary care providers and other health care team members; identify patients potentially in need of Behavioral Health services as flagged by the BH clinical dashboard.
- Consult with providers within and outside the agency regarding treatment plans and patient progress.
- Coordinate with psychiatric consultants for diagnostic and consultative needs; refer as necessary for medication management.
- Attend clinical team meetings and component meetings as assigned.
- Meet productivity standards as outlined in annual performance reviews, focusing on quality clinical care.
- Encourage clients to express their feelings and develop insight into themselves and their relationships.
- Perform crisis interventions; assess immediate safety concerns (e.g., high-risk situations for homicide, suicide, domestic violence).
- Guide clients in developing skills or strategies to achieve identified goals; develop and implement treatment plans in line with state regulatory and Joint Commission standards.
- Evaluate treatment effectiveness and adjust activities as needed; discuss discharge planning and post-therapy plans with clients.
- Work with and support family members to assist in understanding and supporting clients.
- Remain informed about developments in the field and gather information about community mental health resources to augment therapy.
- Licensed clinicians may supervise student interns or other staff working toward licensure; unlicensed clinicians are actively working toward licensure.
- Complete all documentation required by state regulations, Joint Commission standards, and CHC Behavioral Health department laws in a timely manner, including intake, prior authorization requests, progress notes, treatment plans, and discharge notes.
- Complete and lock all treatment notes by the end of the next business day.
- Prepare and submit reports for outside agencies (e.g., DCF, Family Relations, probation) with appropriate client releases.
- Participate as a member of agency-wide committees as assigned.
- Licensure/Certification/Registration: LCSW, LMFT, LPC, or Licensed Clinical Psychologist in CT preferred; or licensure eligibility with current Associate license (MLSW, PC-A, MFT-A) with the ability to obtain full licensure within 3 years of hire. Professional licensure (LCSW, LPC, LMFT) preferred.
- Minimum of two years of experience with outpatients, including experience with children and/or adults.
- Theoretical orientation compatible with brief, problem-focused therapy.
- Reliable access to transportation to outside agency consults, meetings, and home visits.
- Written and oral bilingual fluency in the language spoken by the patient population preferred (e.g., English/Spanish).
- Combination of sitting at a keyboard, walking, and some stair climbing; minimal lifting.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills; interface with patients, family members, community agencies, and other providers.
- Behavioral Health information is kept in strict confidence; confidentiality of patient and business information is required according to CHC policies.
