IntroductionThe State of Connecticut Military Department (CTMD) is accepting applications for a Qualified Craft Worker (HVACR) located at Bradley Air National Guard Base, 161 Rainbow Road, East Granby, CT 06026.
MissionThe Wing’s focus is on Air Mobility, delivering global air transportation of equipment and supplies during war and for peacetime training exercises. The Wing provides cargo and passenger airlift, utilizing C‑130 Hercules aircraft.
Position Highlights- Full‑time, First‑shift;
Monday – Friday
7:00 AM to 3:00 PM (37.5 hours)
Successful completion of a federal background investigation required before permanent appointment

- Plan for and protect citizens and property in times of war, terrorism, invasion, or disaster
In a state agency this class is accountable for independently performing a full range of highly skilled duties in the maintenance and repair of heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration equipment and systems.
Duties- Perform highly skilled tasks in accordance with standard HVACR trade practices and codes on air systems used in heating, ventilating and refrigeration.
- Operate, maintain, repair, install, modify and assemble air conditioning and refrigeration equipment and systems.
- Determine required cooling capacity of units for small areas and use psychometric charts.
- Control and measure air flow, room air changes and room pressurizing.
- Monitor computerized control systems and perform minor tests for fuel specific gravity and gas leaks.
- Add water treatment chemicals to boilers and keep necessary records.
- Estimate time, personnel, and required materials on assigned tasks, and obtain materials as needed.
- In smaller trade areas may be the sole worker running a skilled trade area.
- May perform duties related to similar trade areas, including electrical or pneumatic controls, steam trap inspection, pipe insulation removal, liaison duties, heavy equipment operation and emergency response.

Four (4) years of experience in tasks in the heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration trade.
Minimum Qualifications – Special ExperienceTwo (2) years of the General Experience must have been performing skilled heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration trades.
Minimum Qualifications – Substitutions Allowed- Graduation from a vocational or technical school with a diploma designating completion of subject requirements in a maintenance trade area may be substituted for two (2) years of the General Experience.
- At the University of Connecticut: satisfactory performance and completion of the UConn Facilities Internship Training Program may be substituted for the General and Special Experience as determined by UConn Facilities Operations and Human Resources Management.
- At other state agencies:
Two (2) years of experience as a Qualified Craft Worker Trainee in a designated maintenance trade area may be substituted for the General and Special Experience. - Experience performing technical duties within the HVACR trade area on a military base, aircraft carrier or large compound may be substituted for the General and Special Experience on a year‑for‑year basis.
