Overview

Operations Supervisor II is responsible for supervising the collections activities in one or more lines of business (commercial, residential, roll-off and container delivery pickup). The Supervisor manages drivers and helpers and collaborates with the Operations Hauling Manager to implement tactical initiatives that drive functional excellence and budget achievement. The role ensures adherence to accident prevention programs and leads operations to comply with safety, environmental, operating, regulatory, accounting, ethics and other standards.

Responsibilities include delivering Safety, Customer Experience, and Efficiency while supporting a culture of employee engagement.

Responsibilities
  • Route Planning and Safety Awareness: check in drivers and helpers for fitness, uniform, and PPE; lead and communicate safety goals; analyze routes for unsafe conditions and coordinate with sales/dispatch to address them.
  • Partner with maintenance to keep equipment in safe working order and compliant with safety standards; oversee safety and accident prevention programs; conduct route observations and coach drivers on safe driving.
  • Engage employees to foster a culture of safety and monitor safety-related metrics; respond to vehicle accidents and conduct preliminary investigations; ensure DOT, environmental, and regulatory compliance; maintain route documentation and regulatory paperwork.

    Experience:

    provide service that meets or exceeds customer expectations; communicate missed pickups and schedule changes; resolve unusual service requests and interact with customers to improve overall experience.
  • Efficiency: develop cost-effective route assignments; analyze route performance to ensure timely pickups; manage door traffic with Dispatch; monitor attendance and ensure proper waste segregation and disposal procedures.
  • Employee Engagement: create a collaborative team environment and develop talent; coach employees for advancement.
Qualifications
  • 3+ years of experience in waste management operations
  • 2+ years of supervisory experience in waste management, transportation, and/or logistics services
  • Experience with route optimization and efficiency improvement
  • Associate’s degree or higher in Business, Logistics, or related field preferred or equivalent work experience
  • Knowledge of DOT requirements for commercial vehicles
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Knowledge of Power

    BI preferred
  • Computer skills (Microsoft Outlook and basic Excel); strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills
  • Defensive Driving (Smith System 5 Keys)
