Sonographer

Responsibilities

• Perform high‑quality ultrasound examinations using analytical and judgement skills to interpret complex images.
• Formulate comprehensive, diagnostic, independently written reports for each examination.
• Communicate distressing and unwelcome/unexpected news directly to patients using tact, empathy and diplomacy.
• Communicate complex information regarding diagnosis/treatment directly to clinicians and patients.
• Maintain personal clinical expertise in ultrasound scanning including ongoing CPD.
• Review, update and maintain the patient’s clinical records.
• Participate in teaching students and clinicians in the field of ultrasound; participate in the vetting of ultrasound requests.
• Deal with conflicting demands from different staff groups at all levels.
• Have a flexible approach to work and the ability to work under pressure of high workloads.

• UK‑recognised PG Certificate/PG Diploma or Certificate in Medical Ultrasound, or equivalent.
• Registered with the HCPC or NMC.
