GENERAL PURPOSE
Performs a variety of working level skilled and semi‑skilled industrial housekeeping duties as needed to assure proper cleaning and routine maintenance of city facilities.
Supervision ReceivedWorks under the close to general supervision of the Facilities/Fleet Supervisor.

Essential Functions Building MaintenanceMonitors building temperature controls; performs daily inspections and makes adjustments; performs general maintenance to assure efficient operation of heating and cooling system; maintains various monitoring and safety devices designed to prevent or control fire, theft, etc.
Performs general maintenance including painting, caulking, drywall repair, ceiling and floor tile repair, etc.; utilizes extension ladders replacing bulbs and hanging and replacing ballasts.
Performs basic carpentry; maintains physical aspects of the buildings such as window and door frames, woodwork; performs routine plumbing; clears and cleans drain obstructions; maintains sinks, urinals, toilets; paints interior and exterior structures.
Performs seasonal duties, assists in snow removal; provides back‑up labor on other department projects as needed.
CustodialPerforms facility care and cleaning tasks such as vacuuming, mopping, floor stripping and refinishing, carpet cleaning, auto scrubbing, etc.; polishes fixtures.
Sweeps, buffs, dusts, strips, waxes, washes, and polishes hard surface floors; washes and cleans walls, door frames, doors, and glass; empties and cleans waste receptacles; cleans, disinfects and sanitizes restroom sinks and bowls; washes windows; vacuums and shampoos carpets and entry rugs and mats.
Monitors custodial supplies and materials inventory; apprises supervisor of shortages; monitors facility mechanical operations and equipment to ensure proper functioning; apprises supervisor of need for repair or maintenance.
Operates various cleaning equipment such as power buffer, carpet extraction machine, etc.; mixes chemicals as needed to perform specialized cleaning functions.
Performs general facility security checks; checks door locks and other systems for proper "after‑hours" operation.
Assists with room and meeting preparations; lifts and moves furniture within and between buildings; performs set‑up and take‑down of meeting equipment as needed.
Fleet MaintenancePerforms a variety of skilled tasks related to the maintenance, service, and repair of city vehicles.
Performs preventive maintenance and makes repairs to vehicles.
Performs general vehicle inspection and certification, checks and maintains service schedules consistent with manufacture and city specifications.
Performs automotive and mechanical troubleshooting and analysis of malfunctions using various technical and computerized testing and calibration equipment.
Performs miscellaneous weekend, seasonal or periodic duties.
Minimum Qualifications- Education and Experience:
- Graduation from high school.
- Three (3) years of experience performing above duties; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Working knowledge of procedures, tools, equipment and materials used in custodial work and automotive mechanics; MSDS safety precaution worksheet; safety practices of custodial work and use of cleaning agents and equipment; construction techniques, and methods related to carpentry, plumbing, or electrical wiring; methods, materials and equipment; the operation and minor maintenance and repair of plumbing fixtures; electrical and mechanical systems, small motors, etc.;
basic inventory control methods and procedures.
Skill in carpentry, plumbing or some other construction field; use of a variety of hand and power tools such as hammers, saws, wrenches, sanders, floor buffers, vacuums, and other tools common to building maintenance and repair.
