Job Description

The Language Service Manager will oversee the organization’s language access program and shape its long-term strategy. This role leads translation, interpretation, and localization operations for medical and member-facing content while ensuring compliance with Health Equity Accreditation (HEA) standards and federal/state language access regulations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Establish and operationalize the organization’s centralized Language Services function.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain enterprise-wide language strategies.
  • Manage end-to-end translation, interpreting, and localization projects for medical and health-related content.
  • Partner with medical experts and linguistic specialists to deliver high-quality, culturally accurate materials.
  • Support enterprise compliance with Health Equity Accreditation language access requirements.
  • Help design and implement strategies for meeting regulatory obligations for translation and interpreting services.
  • Partner closely with medical, legal, compliance, customer service, and operations teams.
  • Integrate language considerations into enterprise initiatives, especially for Limited English Proficient (LEP) members.
  • Implement quality control processes to ensure consistency, accuracy, and regulatory alignment across all translated materials.
  • Identify, evaluate, and manage external language service providers.
  • Negotiate contracts, monitor performance, and ensure cost‑effective service delivery.
  • Manage the Language Services budget and track spend.
  • Promote cultural sensitivity and ensure content is tailored to diverse member groups, including during open enrollment.
  • Stay current on best practices, technology, and emerging trends in the language‑services field.
  • Implement improvements to enhance efficiency and service quality.
  • Develop reporting frameworks to track key language metrics.
  • Analyze data to assess performance and provide updates to leadership.
  • Support and coordinate tasks for bilingual staff, including interpreters and translators.
  • Provide guidance, mentoring, and feedback to enhance team effectiveness.
Qualifications

Required Qualifications
  • 5+ years of professional experience in a related field (work, education, transferable skills, and military experience all considered).
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience managing translation, interpreting, localization, or language‑access operations.
  • Strong leadership ability and experience guiding teams of language professionals.
  • Exceptional project management skills; ability to manage concurrent projects and deadlines.
  • Proficiency with translation management systems, content management tools, and related software.
  • Excellent communication skills with strong attention to detail, accuracy, and cultural appropriateness.
  • Familiarity with international cultural dynamics and linguistic trends.
  • Strong vendor management and negotiation skills.
  • Analytical mindset with experience using data for decision‑making.
  • Proven experience supporting healthcare project transitions and regulatory compliance.
  • Knowledge of Medicare and Medicaid regulations relating to language access.
  • Strong understanding of medical terminology and healthcare communications.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Linguistics, Translation, Communications, or a related field.
  • Fluency in multiple languages.
  • Professional certifications in translation, interpretation, or related disciplines.
