Mid continent Independent System Operator (MISO) seeks a Power Systems Engineer II (Model Engineering) to guide the effort to collect information from our transmission owners and market participants to build the data models for MISO’s systems that run, protect, and plan the future of the electric grid.
As a Power Systems Engineer II (Model Engineering), you will be part of an experienced and diverse team foundational to achieving MISO’s core vision of being the most reliable, value‑creating RTO. You will play a crucial role in setting the direction for the future of the Market Model building process and have the opportunity to work on groundbreaking projects, including implementing a Model Management System, upgrading our Energy Management System, improving the Day‑Ahead and Real‑Time Market System, and incorporating Distributed Energy Resources into MISO’s planning, operations, and market systems.
Responsibilities- Take the lead and responsibility for maintaining and improving a portion of MISO’s model.
- Help build and craft MISO’s future modeling processes using the MISO Model Manager system.
- Gain an understanding of how your work in modeling services impacts dozens of other departments at MISO.
- Hold at least a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, or Electronics and Computer Engineering Technology.
- At least two years of proven relevant experience (e.g., power system modeling, power flow software, transmission/distribution planning, state estimation, transient analysis, contingency analysis, or related electric utility electrical engineering work experience).
- Appropriate level will be determined based upon experience and knowledge.
The base salary range for this role is $91,000–$116,000 USD annually, in accordance with state and local pay‑transparency legislation. Salary may vary based on location, individual competencies, education, and qualifications. Position is also eligible for an annual bonus if performance and company objectives are met.
