McDowell Center is a 28‑bed residential treatment facility dedicated to adolescent males with mental health, behavioral, and/or substance abuse challenges. The staff includes licensed therapists, psychiatrists, nurses, and counselors who provide 24‑hour support.
Position SummaryMcDowell Center for Children seeks a dynamic and talented LPN/LVN/RN per diem nursing professional. The role includes providing direct resident care under the supervision of a Shift Supervisor/DON/CEO, maintaining a safe therapeutic milieu, crisis intervention, educational groups and daily living activities.
Responsibilities- Create a safe environment for residents.
- Deliver direct resident care and support for crisis situations.
- Conduct therapeutic group processes and individual education sessions.
- Manage behavior, enforce limits, and provide de‑escalation and restraint training as required.
- Work flexibly on an as‑needed basis and fill in for absent staff.
- Graduate of an accredited licensed practical nursing program.
- One‑year experience in inpatient psychiatric/mental‑health nursing preferred.
- Licensed practical nurse, registered with the Tennessee Board of Nurse Examiners.
- Knowledge of psychiatric group processes, therapeutic relationships, age‑specific development, limit setting, behavior management, crisis management with aggressive behaviors.
- Completion of competency training in CPR, HWC, and Verbal De‑escalation / aggression management, crisis intervention and restraint training.
As‑needed basis; primarily fill‑in when other employees are out.
