Are you an experienced vehicle technician looking for a role where your skills genuinely make a difference? This is an exciting opportunity to join County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Service (CDDFRS) as a Vehicle & Equipment Technician, supporting the frontline services that protect our communities every day.
About the RoleWorking as part of our Technical Services Team, you will be responsible for the inspection, maintenance and repair of fire appliances, cars and operational equipment, ensuring our firefighters can respond safely and effectively to incidents across County Durham and Darlington.
Based at our modern Technical Services Centre in Bowburn, you will work across the Service area in a clean, well-equipped workshop, using the latest tools and technology to maintain a diverse and specialist fleet.
What We OfferIn addition to your basic salary (Grade 7 £ 32,061 - £33,699), you will benefit from an excellent reward package, including:
- £2,500 market rate supplement
- Tool allowance – £37.93 per month
- Telephone allowance – £9.99 per month
- On-call standby allowance – approximately £2,000 per year (6-person rota)
- Call-out overtime payment average £4,000*
- Workwear, PPE and specialist tools provided
- 27 days annual leave, rising to 32 after 5 years’ service

* Based on previous three years average callout payment.
About YouYou will have:
- Considerable experience in the repair and maintenance of motor vehicles, primarily HGVs
- A recognised HGV maintenance qualification (City & Guilds Parts 1, 2 & 3, Level 3 Advanced Apprenticeship, or equivalent)
- The ability to participate in a fairly shared standby rota outside normal working hours
Applications are also welcomed from candidates currently working in the PSV industry with relevant transferable experience.
Due to call-out requirements, you should live within or close to the County Durham and Darlington area. While we provide specialist tools, PPE and uniform, you will be required to supply your own hand tools (supported by a monthly tool allowance).
