Please note this is a fixed term position until March 2029 An exciting opportunity has arisen at Sanctuary 21s to support the Mission Development Plan, with its focus on growing a Core Recovery expression of the Salvation Army in Durham. It will involve working with the community, building positive relationships, developing team to accompany those in recovery and affected by addiction;

and sharing faith in culturally appropriate ways. The role will require a sense of vision, purpose and creativity.

Key Responsibilities:

Plan, design, implement and evaluate specific spiritual programmes/activities/initiatives to support the successful delivery of mission in line with Sanctuary 21s focus on those in recovery and affected by addiction Develop and lead worship in the spiritual programme and where appropriate provide chaplaincy and pastoral care to support programme participants with particular knowledge of issues relating to recovery and addiction Develop effective working partnerships with internal mission development teams, particularly The Salvation Armys Core Recovery Team to ensure spiritual programmes are designed and implemented in alignment with organisational and best practice principles Lead on establishing links to the community and any relevant external agencies to maximise the effective delivery of programmes to the community;

especially the wider addictions support & recovery community The successful candidate will have:
The ability and willingness to lead and/or participate in worship, provide pastoral care and bring people in the local community into a living faith with Jesus, especially those in recovery and affected by addiction Strong previous experience and up to date knowledge of developing and implementing successful community spiritual programmes for a diverse range of participants, with specific focus on recovery and addiction Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to convey information to programme participants and colleagues in a clear, effective and professional manner Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to develop effective working relationships with colleagues, programme participants and external stakeholders A strong level of English - both spoken and written - and numeracy required to enable you to fulfil all duties of the role This role has an occupational requirement that the successful candidate must be a committed and practising Christian and will be in sympathy with the doctrines of, and supportive of, the purposes and the aims and objectives of The Salvation Army.
