Quantity Surveyor

The Opportunity

AMB Recruitment is working with a well-established civil engineering contractor to appoint an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor based in Durham.

This is a key commercial role supporting the delivery of multiple civil engineering schemes. You will take ownership of financial and commercial management across projects, ensuring accurate measurement, valuation, forecasting and cash flow control. The successful candidate will play a vital part in delivering projects on time, within budget and to the highest commercial standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Preparation and submission of interim applications for payment

• Management and agreement of final accounts

• Administration of contracts including NEC3 and NEC4

• Issuing early warnings and supporting proactive risk management

• Notification and assessment of compensation events

• Preparing and submitting quotations for compensation events

• Producing financial forecasts and commercial reports in line with reporting cycles

• Subcontractor procurement and commercial management

• Approval of subcontract orders and payments

• Valuation and certification of subcontractor payments

• Ensuring accurate and high-quality site records are maintained

• Attending client and stakeholder meetings as required

• Mentoring and supporting junior QS team members

About You

• Minimum 10 years commercial experience within civil engineering

• Strong working knowledge of NEC3 and NEC4 contracts

• Proven experience across different contract frameworks

• HND, Degree or equivalent qualification (desirable)

• Strong understanding of construction processes and procedures

• Commercially astute with excellent contractual knowledge

• Proficient in Microsoft Office and IT systems

• Valid UK driving licence
