SEND Support Worker – School Based (Young People)

Milk Education is working in partnership with a large SEND specialist provision in the Durham area to recruit dedicated SEND Support Workers who genuinely want to make a positive difference in the lives of children and young people with a range of profound and multiple learning difficulties (PMLD).
This role is ideal for individuals who are patient, caring, and passionate about supporting children to feel safe, understood, and included in their learning. As a School SEND Support Worker, you will work with pupils who may be non-verbal, have physical disabilities, or require high levels of personalised support. A calm, non-judgemental approach and strong communication skills are essential.
Both full-time and part-time positions are available, offering flexibility to suit your availability.
Key Responsibilities
Provide consistent 1:1 and small group support for pupils aged 4–19 years with a range of PMLD
Support the delivery of Educational Health Care Plans (EHCPs)
Encourage emotional wellbeing, communication, and social development
Communicate clearly and respectfully with teachers, school staff, and external professionals
Provide personal care where required, including Moving and Handling, Toileting, and PEG Feeding (full training provided)
Help create a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment
Person Specification
Experienced support workers who are open to working with children would be well suited to this role due to the complex needs of pupils attending the school
Previous experience administering personal care is advantageous
A genuine passion for supporting children with additional needs
A patient, caring, and non-judgemental approach
Strong communication skills, with the ability to adapt to individual needs
Ability to work proactively, both independently and as part of a team
An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply)
