The Equipment Operator for the Cemeteries Division performs and/or assists with coordinating maintenance operations; operates light to heavy equipment, to include lawn mowers, dump trucks, front‑end loaders, and tractors. An incumbent is responsible for performing semi‑skilled maintenance operations for assigned facilities or sites; receiving and processing work orders and service requests; inspecting cemetery grounds, equipment, and/or vehicle conditions; installing, operating, and/or maintaining devices, vehicles, and other equipment;
preparing and maintaining reports and records; addressing safety issues; and performing related duties.
Weekend work schedule is normally rotated among Cemetery staff.
Responsibilities- Prepare grave sites for burial services at both City‑owned Cemeteries.
- Operate construction equipment including, but not limited to, dump trucks, front‑end loaders, and tractors.
- Provide general grounds maintenance support including, but not limited to, mowing/trimming, grave maintenance, and brush removal.
- Work well on a team with a sense of urgency.
- A weekend work schedule is normally rotated among Cemetery staff.
- High School Diploma or equivalent (GED, HiSet, TASC).
- Three years of experience related to assignment.
- A valid North Carolina Class B CDL or obtain within 6 months of hire.
- North Carolina Pesticide Applicators License.
- MUTCD Roadside Environmental Safety Certification.
- Experience working in roadside environments.
- Experience driving a 1‑ton truck with trailer or equivalent.
- Experience operating a suite of landscape equipment (zero‑turn mower, edger, trimmer, blower, tractor).
