Overview
Toshiba Global Commerce Solutions is seeking a hands-on Senior Software Subject Matter Expert in Software/Systems Architect and Technical Leader to drive the design, delivery, and evolution of large-scale, distributed software platforms. This role provides deep technical leadership across system software, cloud services, and AI-assisted development, guiding teams through complex architectural challenges while ensuring security, scalability, reliability, and operational excellence. You will lead cross-functional collaboration, define reference architectures and engineering standards, mentor architects and engineers, and influence platform strategy to deliver high-availability, cost-efficient, and future-ready solutions at scale.
Core Mission : Own and evolve resilient, distributed, and AI augmented system software architectures that span hardware, edge, on-prem, and cloud environments. Establish and enforce architectural guardrails for availability, fault tolerance, operability, and long-term architectural health across System Software.
Responsibilities- Guide software development, test, and support teams on complex technical issues and solution design.
- Own System Software platform and services architecture; define solution design direction and enforce architectural guardrails across teams.
- Lead cross-organizational architecture and design reviews across HW, System Software, Application SW, SRE, Support, and Professional Services.
- Define and enforce nonfunctional requirements (security, scalability, reliability) and reference architectures; ensure CI/CD and Dev Sec Ops alignment.
- Provide hands-on technical leadership, mentorship, and design governance for architects and developers.
- Architect, design, and develop large-scale distributed software services and solutions in collaboration with teammates.
- Translate discovery outcomes into actionable backlog items, ensuring design intent, architectural standards, and NFRs are preserved.
- Shape platform and portfolio strategy by identifying reusable capabilities, API-first opportunities, and gaps requiring investment.
- Operationalize AI/agentic workflows for design acceleration, prototyping, code and test generation, and automated validation.
- Define governance for AI-assisted development, including traceability, safety, and ethical use.
- Communicate effectively across global geographies to maintain architectural coherence.
- Produce reference architectures, design standards, and internal white papers.
- Collaborate with development and product teams to design high-quality software solutions.
- Design solutions emphasizing high availability, scalability, robustness, and usability.
- Build prototypes and POCs to validate architectural decisions and de-risk key choices.
- Drive best-in-class engineering practices through code/design reviews and data-driven decision making.
- Ensure services and components are modular, secure, reliable, reusable, diagnosable, and actively monitored.
- Stay current on modern technologies, cloud deployments, and microservice patterns; conduct POCs to evaluate technology fit.
- Drive diagnosability and operability through structured logging, metrics, tracing, and end-to-end observability practices.
- Influence portfolio strategy to reduce architectural debt and long-term operational risk.
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
- 10+ years of experience in software development and architecture, with a focus on cloud-based solutions and microservices.
- Experience with networking implementation and problem solving.
- Expert in and leveragethe seven layers of OSI to work through complex issues.
- Excellent cross-team communication and stakeholder leadership.
- Proven experience leading and mentoring development teams in an Agile environment.
- Proven experience owning end-to-end solution delivery, including design, implementation, and post-release operational accountability for medium-to-large projects.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
- Strong problem-solving skills; the ability to think creatively and strategically to identify and address complex technical challenges under pressure while communicating clearly and professionally with both customers and internal sales teams.
- Experience with Dev Ops practices and tools, including continuous integration and delivery, automated testing, and infrastructure as code.
- Strong experience with CI/CD (Jenkins/Git Lab), artifact management (Nexus), and secure SDLC.
- Knowledge of security best practices and experience implementing secure software solutions.
