** Description of Work
** This position provides technical work in the installation, repair, and maintenance of a wide variety of electrical and electronic equipment with emphasis on traffic control equipment & related devices for Division 5. The duties to be performed include: installing traffic signal equipment, wiring detectors, installing and wiring controllers, tracing out electrical wiring diagrams to locate trouble, dismantling and reassembling components, replacing worn or faulty parts.
Work will be performed without constant supervision and will be evaluated by the supervisor for efficient use of time and proper operation of Traffic Control Systems repaired and maintained. Skills of this position include: general knowledge of the principles and practices applied in the safe and efficient use of tools, materials and test equipment used in electrical/electronic trade, ability to diagnose source of equipment failures, ability to repair/maintain a wide variety of complex electrical equipment.
The Electronics Technician is expected to maintain proper records of all signal work accomplished and keep accurate record of time worked and all materials used via computer.

** Salary Grade and Salary Range: NC09 / $39,671 - $69,426
** Management prefers applicants with the following:
*** Knowledge of standard test equipment used to diagnose electronic components
* Experience reading and understanding schematic drawings and wiring diagrams.
* Knowledge of the National Electric Code.
* Demonstrated ability to plan, schedule, and carry out work assignments effectively with minimal technical supervision.
* Experience performing manual and physical labor in varied environmental conditions.
Additional Expectations:
Employees must possess the ability to lift up to have the ability to lift 80+ pounds, shoulder high. Must be able to use and operate aerial bucket truck up to 50+ feet in height without accommodations. Perform assigned tasks and understand and follow both oral and written instructions, comply with all safety rules and policies to maintain a safer work environment.
The employees shall have the ability to perform manual and physical labor involved in the installation and removal of traffic signals and other traffic control devices. Employees will be expected to work in environmental conditions which include extreme cold and excessive heat conditions, exposure to noise, dust, asphalt, traffic and heavy construction, exposure to noise, dust, asphalt, traffic and heavy construction.
Position is subject to emergency callback and overtime and may require non-traditional work hours including weekends, holidays, nights, and times of emergency.
The selected applicant will be expected to legally operate a motor vehicle and have a valid North Carolina Class A Commercial Driver’s License with Tanker (N) endorsement. Either possession of a current Clas A Commercial Driver’s License on the date of hire, OR the North Carolina Class A Commercial Driver’s License must be obtained through completion of on-the-job training and all requirements mandated by Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (Federal Registry 49 CFR 383) within 360 days of the date of hire.
